Engineering Manager

Would you like to have the opportunity to directly shape the future architecture and design of Submarine Combat Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Consultant Engineer at our Frimley, Filton – Bristol, Broad Oak – Portsmouth or Weymouth sites.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the high-level design specification of the Common Architecture for the next generation of the Combat System for UK submarines. This project is delivering an innovative, affordable COTS (Common off the Shelf) based solution across the flotilla of UK submarines.

This role will provide you with the chance to work very closely with the infrastructure and subsystem design teams, along with taking requirements from the customer of what they need their combat system to do, and produce architectural requirements, constraints and policies to define the system architecture of the combat system

Your main responsibilities as an Engineering Manager will involve:

Management of CS Architecture personnel within Combat Systems Design to ensure that an appropriate architecture is defined for the platform specific Combat System(s)

Working closely with the Common Infrastructure, System and Subsystem Design teams to ensure that the architecture as defined is coherent, documented and delivered to support the in-build and in-service platform programmes

Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, assessing Combat System level evolutions, to ensure that the strategy of achieving and evolving a Common Combat System being fitted to all classes is achieved and maintained

Ensuring that the highly successful on-going innovative evolution of the Common Combat System is maintained and applied in a constant and coherent manner across all Submarine Platform classes

Ensuring that deliverable Architecture Technical Requirements, Policies and documentation are fully defined and that designs are delivered and maintained.

Compliance with the LCM and System Engineering Lifecycle for all work conducted by the Architecture team.

Raising and management of related Engineering Change Requests and Impact Assessments.

Identification, bid, implementation and delivery of Technology Management and Evolution development tasks.

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineering Manager:

Experience of complex systems architecture definition and management

Experience of high end processing technology, networks and protocols

Requirements management experience (capture, decomposition, qualification, acceptance)

Experienced people manager

Engineering qualification (HNC/ HND or degree level)

Experience of working with a Maritime or Military domain

Experience of working with and to Security and Safety standards.

Experience of Systems Engineering Lifecycle management

Experience of DOORS and UML

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers. Our team is responsible for system design, build and/or procurement of the major electronic and mechanical systems on a submarine, as well as provision of test, integration and support services.
