Background

Our staff are contributing to schemes that make a real difference to people's lives, both at home and abroad, and we are looking for a talented Senior Civil Engineer who can help us provide yet greater benefits to yet more people.

Consolidation within the engineering sector continues apace, but we still stand as a bastion of the employee ownership model - independent in thought and action, making decisions based on what is best for our clients and our staff.

Our Brighton office is home to a vibrant team of water and wastewater engineers, along with other technical specialists. Their workload and client base are remarkably diverse, covering projects with Southern Water and Thames Water (amongst other utility companies), the Environment Agency, Highways England, other central/local government bodies, and private companies (UK and international).

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will take a lead role across a diverse range of projects, including design and build work, and provide key advisory services to clients across the UK and around the world. Our current portfolio covers rivers and coastal engineering, flood risk management, pipelines and networks, and water/wastewater treatment.

You will contribute to, and manage, the preparation of outline and detailed civil engineering designs, technical and commercial specifications, drawings and schedules. This will often involve the coordination of resources across other offices - particularly Reading and Cambridge.

During the course of these activities, you will be expected to seek out cost savings and identify innovations, ensuring the delivery of the best solution in the most efficient manner.

You will also mentor junior staff in the Brighton team, providing them with vital guidance in the development of their careers, as your seniors will provide you with support in the development of yours.

You will also have the opportunity to get involved in business development work - contributing to, or leading, bids with both existing and new clients, potentially in new markets.

In terms of career progression, we can offer paths down technical, management or commercial/client-facing routes, or a combination thereof - you will have control of your own professional growth.

What qualifications, experience and aptitudes will you need?

  • Chartered or Incorporated civil engineer, or working towards
  • Extensive water/wastewater industry experience
  • Technical design experience - from feasibility to detailed design
  • Understanding of designer's responsibilities under CDM
  • Experience of checking and reviewing the work of others
