Principal Engineer (ProductSafety Assurance)

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer(Product Safety Assurance) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
Asa Principal Engineer you will be playing a key role in governance of ProductSafety across business functions and Product Safety assurance of products andservices, which includes the Astute and Dreadnought Class Submarines for theRoyal Navy. You will be liaising with other business functions and teams to delivercorporate and business Product Safety objectives.
Inthe EPAD Product Safety Assurance Team, you will be supported by and work withbusiness and submarine technical specialists in the delivery of ProductAssurance objectives. This role offers excellent career development and careerprogression opportunities.
Your mainresponsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Product Safety Assurance) include:
To work within the EPAD, providing Product Safetymanagement, design and analysis expertise in support of business objectives andproducts and services programmes
Reporting directly to the Engineering ManagerProduct Safety Assurance
Provision of coaching/mentoring and technical adviceto peers and junior members within the EPAD on Product Safety matters
To advise and recommend to the Engineering ManagerProduct Safety Assurance on the appropriate strategic direction and planningfor the department, on both Product Safety technical design and businessmatters
Delivery of corporate and business Product Safetyobjectives within the EPAD and the provision of specialist Product Safetyadvice to other business functions in the delivery of their corporate andbusiness Product Safety objectives. This is in the context of the fourprinciples of Product Safety – Accountability, Level of Safety, ConformingProduct and Learning & Sharing
Assist and deputise the Engineering Manager ProductSafety Assurance at key meetings and events
To provide assurance that the required levels ofsafety are delivered in our products & services throughout all phases ofLife Cycle Management
Delivery of independent Product Safety assuranceevidence through Life Cycle Management key hold points that products andservices conform to their design intent.Includes assurance at product and services, functional integration andsystem levels
Undertaking audits on the Maritime business and productsand services Product Safety Management Systems
Assist the EPAD Product Safety Assurance Team in thedelivery of Product Safety training across the business including ProductSafety Process 2.5 and I Keep Submarine Safe courses
Liaising with other business functions and teams toensure successful integration of Product Safety within business and productsand services processes
To identify and promote Learning & Sharingmatters related to Product Safety and provide assurance that Product Safety Learning& Sharing is considered and embodied across the business and products andservices
Yourskills and qualifications:
Demonstrableknowledge and experience of Product Safety delivery, including safety case productionand safety management activities, applied to maritime platforms or withincomparable safety critical industries
Applicationexperience of Life Cycle Management
Influencingpeople both orally and in writing
HonoursDegree in STEM related discipline or equivalent qualification or experience
Understandingof whole boat designs, functional interfaces, relationships and dependencies
Thoroughknowledge of submarine design Product Safety policies, standards and processes(Inc. DSA 02, JSP 430, Def Stan 0055 & 0056, Def Stan 02-207)
Understandingof Submarines business, including policies, processes and functional department'sinterfaces/dependencies
MScor working towards a Safety Engineering degree
ChartereredEngineer or in process of working towards
