Principal Engineer ( Electrical Assurance)
Would you like to play a key role in the assurance of submarine systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance) within the Engineering Product Assurance Department, you will be providing the Head of Engineering (Assurance and Safety) with technical assurance advice relevant to a number of Electrical Submarine systems such as: Naval Reactor Plant, Propulsion and Whole Boat Platform systems and associated equipment. You will be part of a team whose role is to provide Assurance that all the products BAE Systems Submarines produce meet their requirements, are safe to operate and compliant with statutory legal and regulatory requirements.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Electrical Assurance) will involve:
Compiling assurance evidence through review, surveillance and audit of Electrical systems design, build, commissioning, and certification activities, as required by the Technical Assurance Programme
Conducting assurance of sub-contractors and supplier design and build activities and outputs, as required by the Technical Assurance programme
Reviewing plans for surveillance and audit for all aspects of the submarine Electrical activities and systems including through life capability and support
Working closely with Quality Assurance, Engineering Function, Dockside Test Organisation (DTO), Projects and MoD in delivering assurance against design intent for build and commissioning phases of submarine production including process instructions, workmanship standards and risk assessments applicable to the scope of work and to obey all HS&E rules and control measures
Your skills and qualifications:
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
Electrical experience gained from a complex engineering environment either in the design, build or operational state
Knowledge of safety engineering and engineering lifecycles applied to safety critical industries
Experience of marine/ defence industry
Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered Status

You must possess strong stakeholder engagement ability; quickly establishing professional relationships to ensure Electrical design and system integration are at the forefront of engineering solutions.
Able to put forward a clear and credible reasoning in either support engineering decisions or providing the argument why you do not support the decision.
To have experience of design proving, product verification, build surveillance and/or product assurance and qualification activities.

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
