Principal Mechanical Engineer ā€“ Nuclear Propulsion

Would you like to play a key role in the design and development ofsubmarine nuclear propulsion systems? We currently have a vacancy for aPrincipal Mechanical Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be working within the SubmarinePropulsion team, designing and providing engineering expertise forthe Nuclear Propulsion Systems and, as well as specifying and procuringall propulsion equipment. More specifically, involvescoordinating and executing engineering tasks, or packages of work, andproviding guidance and advice in a consistent professional manner within thediscipline, taking cognisance of appropriate budget, timescale and qualitystandards; providing leadership where required.

This varied role will provide you with the opportunity to work with arange of design activities, from detailed analytical aspects, right up to highlevel specifications. You will also have exposure to major customers, as wellfuture opportunities to progress into engineering management or a technicalspecialist role.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Mechanical Engineer willinvolve:

To undertake the full range ofpropulsion fluid system design analysis and/or support the development andproduction of major propulsion equipment through collaborative working withsuppliers

To author system design documentation including, but not limited to, designdescriptions, safety documentation, test and commissioning specifications anddesign verifications.

To author equipment technical specifications within area of responsibility

To review documentation, calculations and analyses in accordance with Companyprocesses and procedures.

To liaise and communicate with client/customer within areas of responsibility

Review supplier deliverables and design documentation

To prepare documentation for, and present at design reviews

To support the procurement and equipment acceptance process within areas ofresponsibility and represent the engineering function at supplier reviews andother events

To formally review and check analyses and documentation in accordance withCompany process

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Mechanical Engineer

Essential:

Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within MechanicalEngineering/Nuclear/Chemical Engineering/Physics or closely related discipline

Experience with design and development of fluid systems used inindustries such as: nuclear power, water, process industry, chemicalengineering, refineries etc.

Proven track record in mechanical/chemical engineering

Good IT skills

Desirable:

Chartered engineer or working towards
