Would you like an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering Team at BAE Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Marine Engineering Trials Manager – Mechanical at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Trials Manager – Mechanical, you will be joining a close-knit team that delivers engineering inspections and assurance services across the ship repair and fleet time support projects based in Portsmouth Naval Base.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work elsewhere in the UK or abroad, all though most projects are based in the Portsmouth Dockyard. This is a hands-on role at the delivery end of engineering support to the Royal Navy. There is immense satisfaction in accepting and assuring work completed to the right quality in order to allow QNLZ, T45, and the HUNT Class to proceed back to sae on operational duty.

Your main responsibilities as a Trials Manager – Mechanical will involve:

Planning, preparing and conducting of progress, safety and acceptance inspections of marine engineering systems and equipment in RN warships undergoing deep maintenance.

Planning and Preparing the required portfolio of evidence for whole ship trials such as HAT ME.

Preparing for and chairing take-on and wash-up meetings associated with inspections and trials.

Collating certification and supporting evidence in support of trials and inspections called.

Creating written reports.

Maintaining close liaison with the Delivery Teams and Commissioning engineers, Project Officers, Platform COMs, MCTA/MTAU, WTA and embarked Ship’s Staff.

Acting as Assurance Ship Manager as required, acting as the focal point of contact for trials requirements, planning, scheduling, coordination and delivery to time, cost and quality.

Coordinating the detailed chair scheduled project meetings and coordinate trials and inspection activity leading up to SSMOB and RFSD.

As required, assist in the preparation of trials and acceptance input to bid documentation including the scope, budgeting and estimation of trials effort.

Writing and reviewing equipment installation, commissioning and acceptance Test Forms and validating data recorded.

Your skills and qualifications:

As a Trials Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Preferably BTEC HNC and you will have also served a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent.

You will have extensive experience as a technical manager on RN ships. To have had particular responsibility for an ME sub-department would be an advantage.

You will be HV aware and will ideally have had experience of electrical hybrid propulsion systems.

Previous experience of managing T23/T45/QEC ME aspects either in a seagoing post or direct support role would be a major advantage.

You will be experienced in the conduct of maritime trials and acceptance and have a sound knowledge of general engineering standards applied to technical installations and systems.

Experience as an operational sea training engineering sea rider or MCTA trials officer would be an advantage.

Ability to interpret technical guidance instructions and read technical drawings.

You will be a good time manager with the ability to work unsupervised.

You will be computer literate and be familiar with Windows 7, Office 2010 applications, MS Project and be confident to use database applications.
