Senior Structures Engineer

Would you like to play a key role working in the BAE Systems Air sector? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Structures Engineer at our site in Prestwick

As a Senior Structures Engineer, you will have interactions with airworthiness specialists, airframe and systems designers, aerodynamicists, materials and manufacturing engineers. You will typically work as part of a team, reporting to a Team Leader or Project Manager, and acting as the Lead Structures Engineer for the teams. The technical quality of your work will be compliant with project standards and the Regional Aircraft Stress Manual, as specified by the Lead Engineer - Structures.

BAE Systems Air is also the OEM for the 146/RJ, ATP, Jetstream 41, Jetstream 31 and HS748 aircraft types, providing technical support, modifications and supply chain solutions to an extensive range of commercial airline operators who operate these aircraft types.

This role will provide you with experience working on commercial aircraft/military fast jet airframe design and development programmes. You will also have the opportunity to work on different platforms and engage with key stakeholders.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Structures Engineer will involve:

Defining and carrying out engineering tasks within your span of control for you and any subordinate Structures Engineers under your control, performing tasks to cost and on time to meet requirements and business needs.

Ensuring the technical content of the work, including deliverables, is acceptable to your operational engineering manager and functional manager and utilise the most efficient engineering methods available

Confirming all work is compatible with the departmental quality policy and that departmental procedures are followed. Agreeing your work plan with your operational engineering manager and deploying structural engineering methods, processes and data for activities within your span of control.

Ensuring effective interactions with colleagues, customers, and others, to promote the best interests of the team, department and company.

Providing efficiency and effectiveness suggestions for the development of structural engineering toolsets and processes within the Structural Engineering discipline.

Your skills and qualifications:
Essential

An engineering degree or HND

Relevant experience working in aerospace, structural or mechanical engineering

Experience in structural analysis of lightweight structure

Experience of Team Management

Desirable
Airframe detailed stress analysis
Airframe fatigues and damage tolerance analysis
Airframe finite element analysis

Managing staff within an engineering environment

Checking and approval of technical reports and calculations
