Would you like to take the Technical lead in carrying out lining duties for Dock preparations, Docking and undocking of vessels? We currently have a vacancy for a Hull Technician at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.
As a Hull Technician, you will be providing technical support to the Dock Master prior to and during the Docking operation, undertaking Structural Surveys, report writing and technical drawings tasks (CAD).
This role will provide you with an opportunity for a varied role, utilising a broad range of skills supporting Royal Navy Warships.
Your main responsibilities as a Hull Technician will involve:
Taking the technical lead in the Operation of tirfors and fitting of shores
Working accurately to ship docking plans
Leading dock preparations
Taking the lead in Support of the set up and carrying out Incline Experiment’s
Taking the technical lead in undertaking basic slinging tasks
Assisting with line handling duties for the movement of vessels / caissons
Taking the Technical lead with the carrying out structural repairs to pontoons and brows
Your skills and qualifications as a Hull Technician:
Served and successfully completed a recognised Shipwright/Plater Fabrication welding apprenticeship
Understanding and ability to work from technical information/drawings
Experience in metalwork, welding and woodwork and use of hand tools
Confined space trained/skilled climber
PASMA (Erection of Aluminium Access Towers)
Grab Driver Licence/Fork Lift Licence/Cherry Picker
Experience with CAD
Working knowledge/understanding in the safe operation and use of tirfors and shores and relevant hand tools

You will be self-motivated and a strong team player with the ability to also work autonomously. You will be flexible and adaptable and be prepared to work emergency shift patterns and overtime at short notice to ensure that Waterfront deadlines are met.
