Principal Engineer – Strategy and Performance

Would you like to work within the Engineering Function of BAE SystemsMaritime Submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer –Strategy and Performance at our site in Barrow.

The role will provide you with the opportunity to drive improvements inengineering effectiveness and efficiency across the business, principallythrough: the creation, iteration and maintenance of a strategy in order toalign organisational actions, plans and resources with business objectives anddevelopment of plans to drive forward and execute that strategy; working withmultiple stakeholders across the business and wider corporation to help shapestrategic direction, and embed strategic management via objectives,accountabilities and monitoring of progress.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer – Strategy andPerformance will involve:

Facilitating highlyinclusive discussions across the Submarine business-unit and wider corporation,to understand, shape and further the why and how of the engineering strategicdirection and working practices – developing the engineering strategy

Identification of keyattributes of the required culture and how these can be implemented and reinforcedto bring about improved performance

Researching,recommending and building-in industry and academia best practice – throughnurtured partnerships

Supporting thedevelopment of the engineering core and domain capability planning process –establishing an engineering capability model and performing capability maturityassessment

Establishingengineering function analytics to generate insight (knowledge, understandingand learning) to enable evidence-based decision making and performancemanagement

Responding to,participating in, and implementing business improvement initiatives

Analysing engineeringresource demand profiles and forging direction to the supply solutions forlong-term sustainability, considering risks and adjacent business opportunitiesand performing 'what if scenarios' – performing strategic workforce planning

Partnering withothers on future bids

Line Management Responsibilities such as:

To provide leadership, support and coaching to all within your line ofresponsibility. Manage the performance (including quarterly PDRs) for employeeswithin your line of responsibility. To encourage, by example, all matters relatingto good discipline and timekeeping, and to actively manage situations whereexpected personal performance standards are not met for all within your line ofresponsibility.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

STEM degree or equivalent experience within engineering discipline

Demonstrable experience of working within complex programmes, and a clearunderstanding of the Product Life Cycle

Ability to engage with multiple specialisms to gain commitment to actionthrough consultation and consideration of impacts

Desirable:

Demonstrable experience of transformation programmes, capability maturityand operating model design
