Our Foundations and Geotechnics team manages and delivers designs for major below ground civil projects and is recognised as authoritative and cutting edge. We specialise in all aspects of foundations, geotechnics and tunnelling, and contribute to some of the largest and most demanding structures in the world. We provide expertise in value engineering, geotechnical advice, geotechnical information management, site investigation, rock engineering, slope engineering, coastal engineering and environmental geotechnics. Supporting our civil design capability, we have specialist engineering geology, hydrogeology, numerical modelling, and seismic expertise within the division. In addition, our engineering hydrogeologists work with the wider network of hydrogeologists (water resources / contaminated land) across the company. Our project portfolio includes Crossrail, Thames Tideway, Wembley, Victoria Station Upgrade, Budapest Metro, Dublin Interconnector, to name a few. Crossrail, Doha Metro, and a number of hydropower schemes in Georgia, Albania and Zambia.

Due to a growth in our workload, we are recruiting for an Assistant Engineering Hydrogeologist/ Groundwater Engineer to join our team of engineering groundwater specialists in Croydon.

The role

As an Assistant Engineering Hydrogeologist/ Groundwater Engineer, you will support the Principal and Senior Engineers on various UK and international hydrogeology/ groundwater projects from investigation through to design and construction. You'll provide all aspects of groundwater input to geotechnical baseline or interpretive reports and design reports including the derivation of temporary and permanent works pressure profiles. Due to the nature of our work, there may require periods of travel overseas for our international infrastructure projects. In addition, you will be provided with the opportunity to broaden your experience and skills with good career potentially where we will support you to achieve your chartership with a professional institution.

​Your responsibilities will involve the following:

  • Providing groundwater control outline design and drainage advice to engineers, clients and contractors
  • Seepage modelling for geotechnical and structural design input
  • Providing technical support to engineers, clients and contractors including meeting attendance and support to the Senior and Principal Engineering Hydrogeologists

Does this sound like you?

As a Hydrogeologist or Groundwater Engineer, you are able to demonstrate your experience in analytical and numerical groundwater assessments and flow modelling. You are comfortable working autonomously as well as part of a team and are used to working on multiple concurrent projects and delivering to required deadlines ideally within a Consultancy or Contractor environment.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • MSc qualification in Engineering, Geology or similar (MEng or PhD will be advantageous)
  • Good ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff in written and oral English including good technical report writing ability
  • Willingness to tackle professional challenges and enthusiasm for professional career development

Although not essential, it would be beneficial if you have applied groundwater assessments specifically to geotechnical engineering projects as would any experience in the design, supervision and analysis of hydrogeological investigations (including monitoring and instrumentation) and seepage modelling (e.g. SEEP/W) or geotechnical modelling packages (SLOPE/W, Plaxis). In addition, if you are recently chartered or close to submitting your chartership review, this would be advantageous.
