Our division maintains a wide range of core civil and structural engineering skills principally within Bridges, Tunnels, Foundations & Geotechnics, Ports, Coastal & Offshore and Special Services including advanced analysis, civil asset management and materials technology.

We've been involved in the planning and design of various high-profile projects with Clients nationally and across the globe including Crossrail, Tideway, Heathrow Terminal 5, Doha Metro, Sydney Metro, Changi airport and HS2 just to name a few!

Our work involves different skills and we've covered various disciplines with our clients such as;

  • tunnels, buildings, noise, consents and geotechnical for Crossrail
  • feasibility studies, planning and tunnel construction supervision for Thames Water
  • bridges, tunnels and ground engineering for HS2
  • detailed design and site supervision for flood and coastal erosion solutions with the Environment Agency.

We are currently looking to recruit a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to join our expanding design team in Reading. As a key member of this growing team, you will support several major projects as well as develop our business in the Reading area.

What will you be doing?

Project management

You will support several major projects as well as manage various multidisciplinary projects and coordinate with other engineering disciplines including structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance or refurbishment.

Design

You'll be responsible for the production and delivery of reliable design solutions, reports, specifications or drawings. This will include being involved in planning and designing heavy civil and underground works including preliminary design, leading detailed design calculations and leading drawings. In addition to this you will also be involved in drawing productions, design feasibilities and interfaces between key structural elements both above and below ground.

Business & team development

Design and project management isn't your only forte as you will also contribute to the business and team's technical development in mentoring members of the team including graduate engineers. In addition to this, you will support various business development initiatives and bid opportunities around the Reading/Berkshire area.

Does this sound like you?

As an experienced Civil Structural Engineer, you are confident in your technical background and ability to lead projects for reliable delivery. You're also comfortable in your business development skills and possess the ability to build a local network to drive commercial growth. Having previously worked within a design consultancy, you are able to demonstrate practical experience in the construction of civil structures and shafts using UK/Euro design codes and understand design risk management, construction programming, tender process and quality assurance management. In addition to this you have experience of various methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of heavy civil structures. Not only are you highly technical, but you are also adept in both problem solving and team work.

You will be able to demontrsate the following:

  • Degree in Civil/ Structural engineering or similar (ideally MEng or Masters equivalent)
  • Chartered with a relevant professional institution (ICE/IStructE)
  • Knowledge of local market and customer base in and around Reading/Berkshire

Ideally it would be great if you have sector experience in railways, buildings, energy, water or metro engineering with a strong understanding of tunnels, geotechnics and civil & structural analysis programmes. Any knowledge of NEC contracts or practical experience implementing and administering project change procedures would be advantageous. Due to the nature of our consultancy business, you will be willing to travel to client site when required.
