Our specialist social development team works with transport and infrastructure clients to help them deliver socially inclusive outcomes in communities in the UK and around the world. We consider and assess the impacts of projects so that we can maximise benefits of infrastructure development or changes to policy and services. We work on a varied range of projects, applying our skills across many sectors including transport, the environment, housing, and energy.

Due to business growth in our social development team, we are currently looking to recruit a Senior Consultant to join us in the Birmingham, Brighton or London offices.

The role

We are looking for professionals who are interested in understanding how infrastructure, policy and services interact with local communities. Through joining our social development team, you'll be involved in delivering and managing impact assessments (including equality impact assessment EqIA, community and socio-economic assessment as part of Environmental Impact Assessment EIA, and health impact assessment HIA) as well as participate in evidence reviews, policy research and analysis. In addition to this you will deliver assignments for our existing client base, liaise with new clients and be involved in winning new work to grow the business. There will also potentially be line management opportunities for you.

You will be involved in the following responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver a range of projects in sectors including transport, infrastructure, housing and energy
  • Engage with project teams, clients and external project stakeholders
  • Produce impact assessments, reports, action plans and presentations
  • Respond to client briefs and contribute to winning new work
  • Help develop our social development consultancy offer both regionally and nationally

Does this sound like you?

As an experienced Consultant you have a personal and professional passion for economic and social development, social science and research with a background in managing and delivering projects for a variety of sectors with high profile clients. You have experience undertaking impact assessments including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) which have been both standalone and as part of a larger project. You have also previously been involved in project management as well as task management.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as Social Research, Transport or Infrastructure (2:1 or above, MSc preferable)
  • Experience writing reports and delivering presentations
  • Knowledge of the infrastructure and transport sectors

Although not essential, it would be beneficial if you have experience in equality, diversity and including (EDI), writing bids and winning new work as well as experience in various qualitative and quantitative research methods. Any knowledge of the planning process including Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) and Development Consent Order (DCO) for large infrastructure schemes would be advantageous as would knowledge of the health and housing sectors.
