Project Leader - Lean Six Sigma Deployment

Would you like to lead and develop Operational Excellence capability across prestigious submarine build programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Project Leader at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Project Leader, you will be working within our Operational Excellence team, reporting to Operational Excellence Management. The role will be focussed on leading and developing Operational Excellence capability through the deployment, coaching and delivery of Lean and Six Sigma initiatives.

You will also be responsible for driving business improvement projects, whilst liaising with a range of stakeholders, through the use of end-to-end DMAIC methodology.

This role will provide you with the chance to work on one of the most exciting and challenging products in industry, playing a significant role in the support to the construction of the nation's nuclear deterrent submarine programme of the present and future. You will be an active participant and leader in high profile, business critical projects enabling the delivery of all Submarine programmes.

BAE Systems has an order book confirmed through to 2033, building both Astute and Dreadnought, and potential future Submarine programmes.

Your main responsibilities as a Project Leader - Lean Six Sigma Deployment will involve:

Leading and managing initiatives across programmes and functions in line with specific lean and six sigma skill set with associated stakeholders and where appropriate, other improvement personnel, providing coaching, technical mentoring, training and guidance to the wider team around the techniques involved in lean and six sigma

Managing the project workload matching demand with available capacity, working with senior management and stakeholders to prioritise projects

Analysing through diagnostic toolsets and assessing the current performance of processes, procedures, systems, environment, business interfaces and ways of working, bringing key improvement opportunities to the surface via a six-sigma approach

Identifying opportunities and build project plans capable of delivering the required financial and quality results in a timely manner

Utilising problem-solving methodology to address root causes and process variation

Developing, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance the delivery of submarine programmes, maintaining a focus across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People

Ensuring that financial benefit is able to be realised and delivered year on year

Acting as an advocate of Operational Excellence to ensure the competitiveness and longevity of submarine building at the shipyard in Barrow-in- Furness, supporting the community and future generations

Your skills and qualifications as a Project Leader - Lean Six Sigma Deployment:

Demonstrable experience of deploying DMAIC principles in a variety of business environments

Experience of leading and executing business improvement or continuous improvement projects

Ability to drive and effectively deliver change-based projects creating sustainable results

Minimum Accredited (Lean) Six Sigma Black Belt

Experience and knowledge of coaching and training others in six sigma and lean methodologies in the workplace through the use of practical and pragmatic activities

You will also have proven decision-making skills using a reasoned and logical thinking process to reach decisions that are pragmatic and practical to maintain progress but also maintain alignment with longer term strategic business objectives.
