Engineer – (Regulatory Compliance)

Would you like to play a critical role in the assurance of engineering regulatory compliance across our nuclear licensed site? We currently have a number of opportunities for Engineers within Engineering Regulatory Compliance at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As an Engineer (Regulatory Compliance), your primary role will be to provide engineering support and guidance with regards to Regulatory Compliance to area Engineering Authorities, Projects and Services teams for our Site & Facilities department. The main aim is to afford assurance that engineering designs for site and facilities equipment and installations comply with relevant standards, statutory regulations and safety requirements. Specific tasks include giving technical advice, identification of technical requirements, providing technical solutions, review of designs, writing technical reports, conducting investigations and carrying out audits of equipment/installations/documentation.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work across a variety of engineering projects, which will involve engaging with relevant stakeholders, departments and external contractors. This role is a good steppingstone with lots of development, which provides a way forward into the Engineering Team. This is a newly expanding team and you will also have the opportunity to influence how the deliverables are achieved from the start of the process.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineer – (Regulatory Compliance) will involve:

Establishing a steering group for specific regulation compliance

Setting regulatory requirements for facilities and equipment

Providing baseline assessments of existing equipment and facilities against regulatory compliance

Ensuring that all new or modified assets are compliant with relevant regulations and standards

Planning and executing on-site inspections/audits

Production of Reports, Technical Specifications and Requirements documents

Providing advice to other disciplines, maintainers and site committees on technical issues and requirements to meet regulatory legislation

Review of design proposals for both new assets and for major modifications in terms of compliance

Production of process documentation

Managing consultants and contractors who supply specialist analysis and design services

Checking and coordinating installation documentation (certificates, check sheets, etc.) for new or modified systems

Compiling defect and omission list for projects and progressing their completion to a satisfactory conclusion

Your skills and qualifications as an Engineer – (Regulatory Compliance):

Essential:

Experience within a mechanical engineering or electrical engineering role

Knowledge of engineering regulations relevant to your engineering discipline (such as: Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, LOLER, PUWER, Electricity at Work regulations, BS 7671 wiring regulations etc.)

Technical document writing experience

Desirable:

Project management experience

Equipment inspection/auditing skills and experience, and or qualification

You must be a resilient individual with good people management skills who is able to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to be able to explain technical subjects to non-specialists and other engineers.
