Position Summary

  • The role of the VP would be to assist in origination and manage the execution of public and private mergers, acquisitions and divestitures across all industry sectors, equity capital markets advisory on various types of capital raising transactions such as listings and rights issues across South African (and Sub-Saharan Africa) together with other bankers from the team, as well as colleagues from industry, country and other product teams in other countries/regions
  • Our Investment Banking group is well organized to collaborate with colleagues in industry and product teams in all other countries/regions to leverage the J.P. Morgan global platform and provide best-in-class advice and expertise to our clients

Key responsibilities

As an Investment Banking Vice President, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the day-to-day management of projects
  • Liaising with the relevant counterparts at the client and other advisers (accounting, legal etc.)
  • Coordinate project deliverables and due diligence with other advisers
  • Supporting senior management and coverage bankers in origination efforts
  • Conducting detailed valuation analysis, including DCF, trading comparables, transaction comparables and LBO analysis
  • Performing and reviewing detailed combination models, transaction structuring, valuation and other financial analysis
  • Overseeing the preparation of presentation books, management presentations, board materials, memoranda, and other presentation materials for use in transactions or strategic client dialogue
  • Liaising with other team members, industry coverage bankers and other product partners to deliver the firm to our clients
  • Interaction with senior team members and client management teams on a daily basis to execute transactions and discuss strategic alternatives
  • Provide leadership, mentorship and supervision to Analysts and Associates

Qualifications

  • Investment Banking or Corporate Finance experience
  • Very strong analytical / numeracy skills, with high level of attention to detail
  • Exceptionally strong financial modelling/valuation skills
  • Ability to comfortably interact with clients and people in a professional and mature manner
  • Knowledge of the South African regulatory environment
  • Comfort in and commitment to a strong teamwork environment
  • Excellent project management/organizational skills and detail orientated
  • Ability to react well to pressure whilst multitasking on numerous projects
  • Initiative to take responsibility for tasks and drive them to completion
  • Strong understanding of investment banking products
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, profound knowledge of customary investment banking databases (FactSet, Bloomberg, etc.)
  • Strong academic background
  • Fluent in English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills
