As a Structures Engineer, you will cover all aspects of aircraft design, manufacturing and production support and all aspects of support through its service life. Your involvement could span the future planning of projects like Tempest and Future Combat Air Systems, including the development of concepts and new and emerging structural technologies, destined for service in the 2030’s and 2040’s, or the development and implementation of strategies to support and maintain our existing portfolio of products in-service by providing essential analysis and data to our worldwide community of operators
This role will provide you with the experience of working within our internationally collaborative military fast jet platform design and development organisation and will include the potential to work on a range of different programmes, with the opportunity of International travel and placements to develop and extend your career.
Your main responsibilities as a Structures Engineer will involve:
You will be responsible for defining and carrying out engineering tasks within your span of control and for ensuring effective interactions with team mates, customers, and others, to promote the best interests of the team and help develop efficient and effective working practices
Dependent upon your specialist experience and knowledge, you will be responsible for activities such as:
Developing efficient structural concepts, including the effective application of new and emerging technologies
Carrying out analysis of structure using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and hand-calculations to meet structural, flight load and environmental conditions and aeroelastic criteria
Assessing the fatigue strength and durability of structures
Carrying out structural analysis of systems and equipment installations using Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and hand-calculations to meet system performance and structural design criteria
Supporting structural testing and analysing structural test data.
Supporting manufacture of airframes to ensure that manufactured parts meet design requirements through applying relevant structural analysis techniques and standards
Analysing ongoing structural health monitoring data to identify usage trends in support of the provision of fleet management advice to customers. The ability to use databases and scripts to analyse significant quantities of flight data are an essential attribute for this role.
Your skills and qualifications:
Relevant aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related physical science degrees combined with relevant aerospace engineering experience
Experience of Structural Engineering, and the application of structural analysis theories, methods and toolsets to one or more of the following areas:
Structural sizing and analysis
Fatigue, Durability and Damage Tolerance analysis
You will be working towards or aspire to accreditation and chartership via a recognised professional body.
Background in the aerospace industry is preferred but related industries will be considered
