Electrical Engineer - Cable Systems
Our office-based department provides Cable Engineering expertise for a wide variety of projects at all voltage levels for distribution and transmission systems in the UK and abroad. We are looking for an Electrical Engineer ideally chartered with ten years of experience to join our Transmission and Distribution Team. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team.
The selected candidate will carry out work on HV cable system projects, fulfilling tasks including:
* All aspects of cable system design.
* Project Management.
* Proposal Writing.
* Scheme Costings.
* Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
* Overseeing the preparation of drawings e.g. planning applications and tender packages.
* Preparation of Specifications.
* Owners engineer / design assurance.
* Technical due diligence / advisory services.
You will be an experienced cable system engineer, ideally with HVAC and HVDC systems, onshore and offshore, as well as the wider aspects covering consenting, way leaves, surveys, route identification and selection. You will have the ability to lead and project manage multidisciplinary design teams, taking ownership, leading and coordinating designs and deliverables to meet client requirements. You will be analytical and able to solve complex engineering problems.
Attention to internal procedures including financial status reports, project reviews and risk register is an integral part of the role along with ensuring relevant Health and Safety risks are identified, made known to the project team and properly managed.
At the outset we would expect some experience in all named areas but, should your application be successful, you will have the opportunity to learn from other team members and to further develop your skills. Any prospective candidate must display a willingness to engage with new challenges as well as an ability to work confidently on tasks for which they have prior experience. Candidates should have good written communication skills including report writing. The role will also require excellent communication and people skills. The role will include meeting and working with clients and contractors, both on-site and over the phone.
Candidates applying for this role must have a degree in Electrical Engineering. Ideally they will be a Member of the IET or equivalent.
We regularly bid for projects throughout the UK and overseas. A prospective candidate should be prepared to undertake short-term site visits to meet with clients and contractors as required.
