Digital Internal Communications Executive
£31,000 per annum to £43,000 per annum

About the role
With a remote workforce of more than 6,500 colleagues, Internal Communications plays an important part in how colleagues feel working for Northern by helping them understand what we are aiming to achieve as a business and the part everyone plays. This is a really exciting time to be joining the team as we start to build a new Northern under public ownership.
The role can be based in either York or Manchester with agile working options and will report to the Internal Communications Manager. With our colleagues based at a number of locations across the north, you need to be willing to travel.
In this role you’ll be responsible for:
Managing our companywide internal digital communications channels and continually developing them so that the content is relevant and engaging for our colleagues.
Increasing engagement and usage of our internal digital channels by developing and implementing promotional campaigns and activity.
Leading a colleague user group to ensure our digital channels are fit for purpose and identify areas for development.
Planning, writing and editing engaging, relevant, and factually accurate copy for internal digital channels.
Supporting colleagues to transition to digital channels by developing appropriate support materials and communications.
Developing creative digital campaigns to support our wider business goals.
Regularly reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of our digital channels to identify areas for continuous improvement.
Championing digital communications by training and upskilling others to deliver their own digital activity and content.
Ensuring internal communications messages support Northern’s business plan, values and vision and are aligned with external messages.
To carry out any other duties as might be reasonably requested by your line manager
Deputising for other members of the team where necessary.
As well as these specific responsibilities you would also be involved in lots of other companywide communications activity.
Educated to degree level or relevant work experience
Strong IT skills and experience in using Office 365 especially MS Teams and Yammer and other digital technology in internal communications.
Experience of using social media for communications.
Understanding of best practice for digital communications.
Excellent copywriting skills with the ability to write in a friendly, down to earth tone.
A self-starter who can maintain high standards in a fast-paced environment.
A confident people person who easily build relationships with people from all levels.
Ability to prioritise workload to fit the changing business needs
High level of interpersonal skills and an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing
Able to work under pressure.
