Route Services is a division of Network Rail, formed to provide our routes with services and supplies that they need in order to maintain and deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We work with our customers to provide them with the safest, most cost-efficient and effective services enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Supply Chain Operations

This opportunity sits in Supply Chain Operations (SCO), a division of Route Services that procures safe, sustainable, products and services that are in turn used to improve and enhance the rail infrastructure across Britain. SCO aims to deliver excellent value and service to our customers, helping the rail industry to work together to deliver a more cost-effective railway.

Our extensive supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway.

Every year we:

  • Buy and deliver 2,000km of rail and 2.5 million tonnes of ballast.

  • Operate 1,200 rail vehicles.

Behind the scenes we:

  • Process £7,000,000,000 of payments.

  • Handle over 23,000 IT helpdesk calls.

Every year:

  • Mechanical and electrical locking fitters maintain 468 signal boxes and 387 ground frames.

  • Operational property helpdesk process over 200,000 calls.

Brief Description



Are you looking for to start a new Career in the Railway? Do you enjoy working in a role that provides you the chance to learn new things and gives you some variety?


This role will you a chance to work in team environment, where you will have on the job training and help and support from others.


The role involves working at a Network Rail Depot in a team of 5. You will be Loading and unloading trains ensuring this is done safely and efficiently. Materials will need to be moved to other areas of the depot, to ensure the area is clear.



You will be interested to hear this role is working 48 hours, Monday - Friday. Giving you the chance to have your weekends free.



About the role (External)







Key Accountabilities:



Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other instructions.Report any Close Calls as identified.


Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent, advising the Site Manager should you feel more training is required.


Undertake work activities as directed, in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.


Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly, reporting any issues to the Site Manager.


Contribute to your own development.


Adhere to company policies and procedures.


Represent the team at all appropriate business meetings, workshops and briefings as required by the Site Manager



Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications:



Essential


Able to work as part of a team


Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing


Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post required by the business need including training as required


Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by the business need


Computer literate




Desirable


Hold a recognised 360 excavator and Loading shovel/ADT (Articulated Dump Truck) competency cards
