The key purpose of the High Output Track function is the efficient delivery of track renewals and enhancements through improved specification, better utilisation of resources and the professional control and management of projects. Its focus is to renew and improve the rail infrastructure to deliver our dedications for the future through increased efficiency and value for money.

High Output Track Renewals is a national project and part of the Infrastructure Projects (Track) portfolio. We are responsible for the management and delivery of high-quality plain line renewals on the UK's primary mainline routes, using state of the art High Output On Track Machine systems, working 7 nights per week.

Brief Description

You will support the Resource Manager in maintaining and controlling all resources for the implementation of the depot work programme in a safe and efficient manner.


About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

  1. Assist the Resource Manager to guarantee resources are effectively utilised within High Output and to liaise with suppliers to confirm the provision of site requirements are in place.

  2. Confirm site documentation is produced and issued in a timely manner, liaising with the site access control company to assist the Resource Manager in delivery effective implementation.

  3. Support the Resource Manager in the procurement of general consumable items through requisitions and utilisation of Network Rail procurement systems and managing these through to delivery.

  4. Assist with the procurement of track items: ballast, rail and sleepers and to confirm spend on these does not exceed budget parameters. Report on periodic status to Resource Manager, Commercial function and Depot Management teams.

  5. Supporting the Resource Manager in the review of race card to building block resource variances and providing this analysis to the Depot Management team for accurate forecasting and run rate review.

  6. Support the compilation of supplier performance reports as per Network Rail process, and as defined within certain Call-Off Order Management Terms and Conditions. Keep all records up to date in properly maintained files and subsequently archive (and adequately record) the documents, following year-end account close out.

  7. In addition to the above duties, you may be asked to undertake other tasks by your line manager for which you have the relevant competency.


Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Demonstrate people management experience within the construction / railway industry

  • Understand industry guidelines re: rostering, working time and fatigue.

  • Highly effective motivator with strong written and spoken communication skills and capable of interfacing at all levels in the organisation

  • An ability to handle short term pressures arising from short term deadlines to achieve operational targets

  • Understanding of the commercial and financial Depot landscape (budget, forecasts, actual status)

  • Experience in report writing, numerical data manipulation and system interrogation/analysis

  • Computer literate in MS Office applications and the use of NR ordering software, Call-Off Order Management (COOM), iProc, Network Rail Online Logisitics (NROLL), iStore


Desirable

  • Have obtained or progressing toward relevant higher education level qualification

  • PTS awareness of industry issues
