You will be part of the NW&C Regional Team which supports Regional Major Programmes & Professional services across three Routes:
North West Route, covering Manchester, Liverpool, Lancashire and Cumbria.
Central Route, covering the West Midlands and Chiltern areas.
West Coast South Route, covering the south of Crewe to London Euston.

The Regional and Route Buildings and Civils Engineering Team manages all the structures, earthworks and operational building assets that contribute to making the railway an efficient and safe transport system to support the UK economy and provide the service passengers and freight hauliers expect.
This is a challenging and rewarding environment for engineers where you will contribute to a successful modern and complex railway system by maintaining and enhancing embankments, cuttings, bridges, tunnels, and retaining walls. Balancing the needs of the modern complex railway alongside our heritage responsibilities and stakeholder constraints.
This requires innovation as well as an understanding of traditional engineering and construction materials. Critical to success is enhancing resilience of the assets to the impacts of climate change and ensuring a long-term sustainable approach.
As a Senior Engineer [Structures, HS2] you will provide engineering input, support and advice across the Structures discipline where there is a direct interface between Network Rail's conventional railway and HS2's planned infrastructure. Working collaboratively to develop engineering solutions that maintains the integrity of our infrastructure, you will balance this alongside developing the long term strategy for the maintenance, renewal and enhancement of over 14,000 bridge spans, 200 tunnels, 10,000 culverts and retaining walls, and 30 miles of sea defences and 2280 miles of earthworks; and their alignment with other railway enhancements. You will be a high quality civil or structural engineer who can add value to our business and ensure the railway remains safe and develops to meet the demands of the future.
The role also includes driving continuous improvement in the regional approach to managing safety and performance. You will provide a comprehensive region-based Civils support service to route engineering teams, focussed on delivery of regional and route objectives.
About the role (External)
Provide technical expert advice input and support associated with the provision of services for our customers and suppliers.
Support professional leadership for a designated engineering discipline.
Provide expert advice, support and input to technical accident and incident investigations.
Support the setting of policy and standards, operational processes and systems. Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability required within Network Rail, including the competence framework and effective training materials.
Provide the technical input to the development of the standards, specifications, means of compliance and KPIs for Asset Management, including system risks. Support engineering analysis and risk assessment, including assessment of applications for derogations and non-compliance.
Discharge Network Rail's CDM related duties as required by company process.
Support the development of strategy, technology and assets across functions and with industry partners. Liaise with product manufacturers, including external stakeholder e.g. TOC and provide input into the acceptance processes.
Proactively research and respond to changes in the internal and external requirements and practice which impact upon policy and standards.
Identify opportunities for technical and business process improvement and innovation, developing business cases and Investment Papers where required.
Support Engineering Verification activities.
Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.
Represent Network Rail externally to the industry and input to European issues as required.
Integrate and co-ordinate activity across different engineering disciplines and contribute to the development of engineers within the practice.
