About the Company:

Pentalver Transport is an award-winning container logistics company. We are currently recruiting for a Yard Charge Hand at our Southampton Depot.

The Yard Charge Hand Role

You will lead a team of Yard Operatives (Yard Assistants and MSOs) to ensure they are operating effectively and efficiently in accordance with customers’ requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the yard operation runs effectively and safely.
  • Ensure containers are stacked in accordance with the SSOW and correct container is loaded in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all containers are inspected and any damage is recorded.
  • Manage absence, sickness, overtime and holidays in accordance with demand levels and company procedures.
  • Ensuring the effective and efficient use of all equipment and employees, adhering to Health & Safety procedures, employment law standard and company policy at all times.
  • Lead health and safety standards ensuring stacks are neat and pinned in accordance with safe systems.
  • Ensure all staff understand and are aware of risk assessments/safe systems for the working area.
  • Coach, train and develop staff within the department to be more effective in carrying out their roles.
  • Lead high standards of good housekeeping, ensuring stacks are maintained neatly and the yard is clear of rubbish.
  • Conduct investigations in line with Company policy and procedures.
  • Facilitate close working relationships between depot departments, increasing work throughput wherever possible to support the overall depot.

Yard Charge Hand Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience in a counter balance forklift.
  • Ability to prioritise and work well under pressure.
  • Coaching and training skills with the ability to identify skill gaps and training needs, developing staff as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A mature approach to H&S.
  • Strong team player.
  • Proactive, innovative and creative approach to problem solving
