Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract covering Maternity Leave

Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours per week OR Part Time Hours Negotiable

Salary: Up to £66,150 per annum max depending on experience

THE ROLE

You will play a leading role in providing the economic support necessary for Business Bank activities, this will involve market analysis to identify problems and gaps in the market for small business finance, working in close collaboration with the strategy team to appraise options for new Business Bank activities and engaging with product teams to evaluate existing activity.

You will conduct high quality economic analysis of the supply of finance to smaller businesses, with a focus on using economic theory and market data to identify where market failures result in sub-optimal outcomes, produce economic business cases demonstrating the value for money of new product propositions in collaboration with business development, functional and business unit colleagues, as well as external delivery partners and lead externally commissioned economic evaluation of the value for money delivered by Business Bank activities, working closely with the product teams.

Essentially, you will have experience in applying microeconomics to public policy and communicating results clearly in a policy environment, have an understanding of market failures that may arise in business finance markets, have knowledge of business case and evaluation methodologies used to assess the impact and value for money of public policy interventions and experience of contributing to published research reports.

An understanding of the challenges facing new business start-ups, in particular in accessing finance, along with experience of using statistical packages to analyse survey and market data and working with strategy or policy functions in public sector bodies would be beneficially but not essential.
