COTS Hardware Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the design and development based on COTS technology? We currently have a number of vacancies for a COTS Hardware Engineers at our site in New Malden.

As a COTS Hardware Engineer, you will be undertaking a defined range of Combat Management System (CMS) & Shared Infrastructure related hardware engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements under the direction of the Hardware Engineering team leader. You will be involved in a range of testing and issue resolution and ideally will have previous experience in a similar role.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to see the design and development of a system through to deployment on board the Royal Navy platform. This role also gives you the ability to work on multiple projects and be a part of the project across the whole engineering lifecycle.

Naval Ships Combat Systems design, develop, integrate and support combat systems that enable navies to protect nations. We provide a range of combat system products and services that support ships throughout their lives, working with our customers to ensure they can respond to ever-evolving maritime threats

Your main responsibilities as a COTS Hardware Engineer will involve:

Producing documentation to capture hardware design aspects

Creating Procurement Specs for the purchase of COTS items in line with system design

Undertaking installation of hardware at land-based sites and on ships

Supporting EMC, shock and vibration trials

Providing technical support for new bids and undertakings

Resolving technical design issues as they arise

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential skills:

Experience with COTS hardware – e.g. blade and server technology, network switches, cabinets etc.

Experience in formally capturing hardware design e.g. documentation, Visio diagrams etc.

Experience in building and setting to work COTS hardware systems

Experience of putting together test schedules and installation documents

Desirable skills

Experience of working as part of large team on a delivery project

Experience of working on defence contracts and knowledge on what is takes to get hardware/systems on board ship

Experience of EMC, shock and vibration testing

CAD experience
