To support our continuing transformation into a major provider of technology services to retailers around the world, we are building a new organisational unit to support and develop the mission of our Chief of Engineering Officer (CengO). This ‘Office of the CengO’ promotes technical & engineering alignment. The remit of the Office covers software engineering across the whole organisation, working across team and stream boundaries. The focus is on making a positive impact to the productivity and effectiveness of our development teams, both through direct services and through building and strengthening our engineering culture.

What you'll do:

As the Localisation Associate you will be part of the localisation services team and will form a cornerstone of the centralised localisation services department supporting not only software and technology teams but spanning across the whole Ocado group. You will deal with the technical aspects of working on localisation in a tech environment. This ranges from managing translation memories and day to day project management of localisation requests coming from various departments.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Ocado’s recently established localisation services department and work closely alongside the Localisation Manager in a growing team supporting Ocado’s international expansion. You will support the localisation efforts using your technical background and deep knowledge of CAT tools while handling dally localisation requests from across the business.

Your responsibilities:

As the Localisation Associate you will be responsible for supporting the Localisation Services department in managing translation requests from all over the business ensuring requests are delivered on time. We would like you to be proactive and detail-oriented individual. We would like you to have good communication, interpersonal and coordination skills and be able to successfully prioritise and assign tasks across numerous external vendors.

All features we develop must have localised text and documentation in order for them to be released, so this role is essential in helping us continuously deploy new functionality.

As the Localisation Associate, while your work is embedded in the localisation services department, you will be a member of a unit which collectively provides the support, guidance and education needed to perform the role. Working directly with a broad range of development teams and a variety of other business stakeholders, you will provide technical as well as coordination support to the teams with regards to localisation.

Aside from the working directly with the development teams, you will take an active role in liaising with localisation vendors and provide support. You will be given the opportunity to contribute to improving the practices and working methods that are followed, and to enhance the education of vendors we are using.

As a Localisation Associate you will:

  • Coordinate the whole cycle of a side task from information retrieval, preparation, distribution, Q&As, collection and follow-up. Preempt or solve issues as required.
  • Advanced CAT tool assistance and solutions
  • ‘Develop ad-hoc files/solutions according to needs
  • Support the creation and maintenance of reusable assets and glossaries
  • Ensure quick response to inquiries and requests and maintain communication among all stakeholders
  • Become a subject matter expert for the areas you work on.

We’re looking for someone who has a strong technical localisation background and is a language enthusiast - who knows the impact well-localised content can have, and also who is looking to explore new ways of enhancing the experience of learning to use, and using, the software with new and emerging approaches.

What you need to know:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and flexibility to work under pressure, tight deadlines and shifting schedules
  • Ability to relate to tasks, disseminate assets and create synergies
  • Very good eye for detail and a natural inclination towards accuracy
  • Sound knowledge in Memsource a big plus
  • Ability to understand the different needs of different audiences, and to be able to adjust the approach accordingly.
  • Proven experience of working directly with development teams.
  • Ability to work independently to tight deadlines, across multiple projects simultaneously
