Would you like to be part of the SHE Team that guides the world’s largest defence programme in the very heart of British military aircraft development? We currently have a number of vacancies for a SHE Manager available within the BAE Systems Air Sector SHE Team based at our site in Samlesbury.
As a SHE Manager, you will provide specialist SHE advice relevant to a specific area of responsibility, however there are a number of common requirements for all of the roles available. Whilst the role is challenging and wide-ranging, you will be part of a wider team of SHE professionals, and you can expect to be provided with a high level of support and development to ensure you are equipped to meet the challenges that the role provides. The SHE team is responsible for developing SHE strategy, policy and suitable systems; advising and helping the business in operational areas in a wide range of aspects (assembly, maintenance, technology, plant installation) and conducting assurance / providing performance reports to management. You will be advising on all aspects of safety, health, environment to help support the air strategic objectives and maintain ISO45001, ISO 14001 and ISO50001.
This role will provide you with an opportunity to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a challenging and varied role where no two days are the same. You will also have the opportunity to shape and influence SHE within a well-established and successful business working within a highly professional and supportive SHE function alongside highly skilled professionals.
Your main responsibilities as a SHE Manager are as follows:
Supporting the development and/or deployment of the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) strategy and objectives for the business and / or specific site(s).
Providing competent and comprehensive SHE advice, systems and assurance for a business or site(s), enabling them to successfully manage SHE and to achieve company strategic goals.
Managing a team of SHE professionals
Supporting effective SHE regulatory engagement for their business or site(s)
The role may be focussed on a specialist area of safety, health and/or environment, such as governance, culture, construction / infrastructure safety, environmental management, etc.
Driving a range of complex programmes, requiring the job holder to plan, deliver and deploy appropriate SHE interventions in support of business aims where stakeholders can be variable and broadly ranging in terms of seniority
Your skills and qualifications:
One or more of the following QCF/NQF Level 5 (or higher) SHE qualifications:
- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational
- Level 5 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health
- Level 6 NCRQ Diploma in Applied Health and
- NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or
- Safety, Health and/or Environmental Honours
- Equivalent qualification in Safety, Health
A comprehensive technical understanding of safety, health and environmental management standards and practice
Has appropriate experience post-qualification in applying SHE knowledge and processes in work-related situations (10 years+).
An experienced SHE professional with a strong understanding of SHE requirements, internal and external best practice and able to bring their experience to articulate these in order to influence those in key roles in the organisation
A good understanding of the operating environment (including Lines of Business, Programmes, Functions, Site(s) and customers), and a contemporary view of their deliverables and strategic aims, the challenges that they face, and the developments which they are planning and enacting (I’m not sure anyone outside of the organisation will have this knowledge)
An in-depth knowledge of the specialist safety, health and environmental topics relevant to the specific role will be required.
Chartered membership of an appropriate professional safety, health and/or environmental institution is desirable

Experience in managing people, in order to effectively lead a team of diverse talent and experience of managing a diverse range of SHE projects within a changing environment, delivering within budget and to agreed timescales.
