Trade Compliance Coordinator


About the role:


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a busy Trade Compliance department at Abcam as a Trade Compliance Coordinator on a 1-year fixed contract with a potential of permanency upon review in 12 months. This position will be responsible for ensuring our compliance to all trade regulations relevant to our business, working with colleagues across the business and external partners as required. This vital role will develop and execute processes which manage business import/ export risk and ensure the compliance of both our global distribution and manufacturing sites to relevant regulation, the correct declaration of tariff classification, valuation and country of origin.




Essential Responsibilities:


  • Ensure the correct application of relevant Customs legislation, particularly in terms of valuation, tariff classification and country of origin (preferential and non-preferential)

  • Own overall responsibility for import permits and licences and for shipment documentation accuracy.

  • Submit import and export permit applications and/ or other required declarations for Abcam products called for in an import/ export environment

  • Act as first escalation contact in all Customs related matters; provide ad hoc support to internal and external customers in all customs matters as required.

  • First point of contact for HMRC queries in relation to C79, C88, deferment account, MSS reports

  • Manage and coordinate Export Control applications and documentation as required.

  • Perform regular and scheduled audits of customs declarations and other relevant processes, acting as required.

  • Update and maintain business control documentation (SOPs, spreadsheets, reports etc.)

  • Participates in business projects across the function and wider business

  • Provide trade compliance subject matter expertise both to internal and external customers



About you:


You will be a hard-working and enthusiastic individual, who possesses natural attention to detail, organisational and analytical skills. You will have experience in commodity classifications, customs valuation or country of origin determination and a good understanding of Pharma/ Biotech industries and products. You will ideally have customs, freight forwarding or regulatory background.




Key Requirements:


  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in commodity classifications, customs valuation or country of origin determination

  • Good understanding of Pharma/ Biotech industries and products

  • Previous project work experience

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel and ability to process large amounts of data

  • Good presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and be confident in communication at senior levels

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced global team environment, and to embrace change

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent knowledge of business management software, Microsoft Office and business intelligence software such as Tableau

  • Knowledge of Oracle Global Trade Management (GTM) module will be advantageous
