Design Engineer - Electrical
Would you like to work within a vibrant and rapidly expanding team responsible for providing electrical design solutions and physical integration for Combat Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Design Engineer – Electrical at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Design Engineer - Electrical, you will provide technical expertise in response to queries raised by ship repair and other business areas and provide waterfront support to Naval and Commercial Shipyards. You will be working with state-of-the art technologies across all platforms including Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers and Type 26 frigates, using latest design toolsets and applying them to challenging physical integration requirements.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of engineering new capabilities into warships and we are keen to hear from both Design Engineers and those looking to kickstart their career in this area on route to Incorporated Engineer status. There is a clear development ladder, allowing progression from Assistant Design Engineer to Principal Design Engineer with opportunities to undertake further educational qualifications.
Your main responsibilities as a Design Engineer – Electrical will involve:
Producing integrated design solutions for new equipment into maritime platforms
Leading multi-disciplinary design tasks, liaising with other Design Services disciplines to ensure a coherent output
Liaising with, and advising, MoD and industry partners in the development of integration requirements
Undertaking ship surveys and feasibility studies for BAE Systems Maritime Services, MoD and equipment manufacturers
Providing technical contribution to the Product Safety of Design Services
Your skills and qualifications as a Design Engineer - Electrical:
BTEC (Level 3)/HNC/HND/Apprenticeship in electronic/electrical engineering or completion of a recognised Royal Navy electrical or weapon engineering training programme
Working knowledge and understanding of Electrical installation practices and Electrical distribution systems.
Knowledge of Electronic Systems theory
Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
Experience within Combat Systems/ Ship Systems
Familiarity with Ministry of Defence, Defence Standards (DEFSTANS)
Experience in AutoCAD
