Trainee E&I Project Engineer – Major Projects

Location: Aldershot (base location can be flexible across the Thames Valley, Solent & Wessex regions)

Salary: £29,017 (rising to £30,835 upon successful completion of your first year and £34,166 upon successful completion of your training)

We’re looking for individuals capable of building on their education and experience to develop a broad range of skills, required to be a Project Engineer of the future. Ideally you will have the capability to inspire and get the best out of a team, so might have experience in a technical or customer focussed environment, perhaps with experience of managing/leading a team of people.

We are open minded to applications from different industries and would like to hear from you, especially if you are a recent graduate or have attained an HND (or equivalent).

THE ROLE

The gas network industry is preparing for its next exciting new chapter, which will see further significant investment in our assets to ensure continuity of gas supply to our customers throughout our communities. This is a fantastic opportunity to join SGN’s two-year dedicated development programme, which will fully equip you to be a very successful Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer and provide you with significant opportunity to develop your career further. Following the training programme, you will be responsible for the management of project design, construction, repair, modification and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment on SGN’s gas network. The work will also involve travelling to sites throughout the region.

As an Electrical and Instrumentation Project Engineer, you will be enrolled in a dedicated 2-year development programme, supported by line managers and mentors. After successfully completing the programme you will receive a salary increase, including a £1,500 completion bonus. This role offers genuine potential to progress further and in addition, standby and overtime payments will be available.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

A recognised E&I qualification and ideally some experience of working in an E&I environment (educated to HND/C level in electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control, or a similar discipline, ideally with experience in an Electrical and Instrumentation role)

  • The ability to get on well with all types of people e.g. members of the public, managers, customers, suppliers etc.
  • An awareness of working within a budget and being cost-conscious.
  • The ability to think on your feet whilst always being safety aware.
  • Some technical understanding would be an advantage.
  • Flexibility is essential in this role both in terms of hours of work and on call /stand by responsibilities (you may also be required to visit locations around the UK for training or to support team activities).
