About the role

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Scientist to join the Western Blot (WB) core team in the Antibody validation and characterization group at Abcam. As a scientist you will manage the WB testing pipeline for (a) new monoclonal antibodies (NPD), (b) knockout validation of catalogue products and (c) experiments to resolve quality queries, as well as will be responsible for analyzing and reporting on the validation data. This post involves working closely with other members of the quality control teams across the globe.

If you have significant experience with antibody-based techniques and interpreting scientific data with evidence of driving process improvements in a core facility, please apply.

About the NPD WB core team at Abcam

We work closely with other NPD Characterisation and validation teams, in-house manufacturing, Scientific Quality and Support teams as well as with the marketing team to ensure that our products help customers deliver high quality, publishable data. The team is recognized for our broad biological expertise and is crucial for interpreting multiple data sources to maintain Abcam’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Be the go-to WB expert, with firm understanding of principals and the practical methods of WB, IP and ChIP.
  • Take project work, breaking it down to tasks and scheduling those for themselves and others, ensuring delivery on time.
  • Continuously explore and implement process improvements. This involves optimize and standardize our protocols across sites, as well as implementing high throughput testing and automation. As a highly experienced scientist you will take responsibility for validating new assay protocols and their integration into standard work streams.
  • Help to establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes.
  • Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs).
  • Mentor and teach colleagues.
  • Present experimental findings across sites.
About you

Our ideal candidate will be educated to PhD or equivalent (MSc, with relevant professional experience) with a high-throughput core facility background in a commercial environment. You can demonstrate how your changes to previous processes have led to increases in the team’s performance.

You will have a solid experience of the practical and theoretical aspects of experiments involving antibodies, and particularly WB, but ChIP, IP, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry would be advantageous. You will be confident in interpreting data across several applications and take actions to resolve a problem or to improve the product features. A good knowledge about gene editing (e.g. CRISPR Cas9) would be an advantage.

You will be an enthusiastic team-player, with excellent communication skills, and able to work independently. You must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.

If this sounds like you and you’d like to be a part of a fast paced, growing business with the vision to become the most influential company and best-loved brand in life sciences, please apply now!

About Us

An idea conceived in a University of Cambridge laboratory in 1998, Abcam plc(www.abcamplc.com) began life as an innovative and entrepreneurial start-up, spearheaded by like-minded individuals who shared a common purpose of providing the scientific community with quality antibody reagents, as well as trustworthy and up-to-date information about their uses and limitations. Abcam has now grown to become a leading supplier of protein research tools to life scientists, whilst always maintaining the core collaborative values assumed at its inception.

Abcam now supports life science researchers in their quest to understand the cause of disease and ultimately offer improvements to diagnoses and treatments. To achieve this outcome, the company both develops and manufactures its own products in specialist facilities across the globe, and sources from over 400 partners, offering scientists the newest, most innovative and highest quality research tools available globally, regardless of source. With a customer base of research scientists who require high performance products with detailed technical specifications, 64% of global researchers use Abcam products.
