Principal Support Engineer

Would you like to play a key role providing in-service support for Royal Navy submarine operators? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Support Engineer at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Principal Support Engineer, you will be working within the Platform Complex Systems (PCS) team who sit within the wider Complex Systems & Support function. The PCS team primarily provides in-service support and technical advice for the Internal Communication Systems and the Platform Management System on the Astute class boats.

You will be responsible for operating a helpdesk system, answering engineering related queries over the phone, as well as liaising with OEMs, suppliers, design engineers and the customer to provide relevant information, documentation and resolve emergent issues in a timely manner. This role will also involve some travel to supplier premises, as well as going on board submarines to carry out system health checks and carry out fault-finding and defect rectification activities.

This challenging and diverse role will provide you with a unique opportunity to work closely with the submarine product, customer and a range of external stakeholders and suppliers. You will also have the potential opportunity to mentor other engineers and take on leadership responsibilities.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Support Engineer will involve:

Being responsible for providing integration, diagnostic and troubleshooting capability and providing on-call support for emerging issues for related incidents

Providing familiarisation and undertaking customer technical support as directed

Producing, reviewing and commenting on updated design and test documentation, produced by OEMs, Build etc. as part the change management process

Undertaking, owning and resolving the obsolescence issues and recommended solutions prior to MoD submission

Capturing arising queries and resolving them within the SLA for the customer

Travel to Faslane and supplier premises

Going on-board submarines to complete health checks on systems, troubleshooting and rectifying any issues

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Support Engineer:

Degree level qualification in a relevant engineering field, or equivalent qualification or experience

The ability to fault find on a complex system

Good working knowledge of either electronic/ electrical/ systems engineering

Experience within one of the following areas: design/ testing/ integration /systems engineering

Complex Systems and Support:

Complex Systems and Support (CS&S) is part of BAE Systems Submarines. We predominantly supply to the UK MoD but with smaller derivative work done in support of international Customers.
