Senior Safety Engineer

We have an opportunity for two skilled and motivated individuals to join a strong and growing team of design Safety Engineers on the Typhoon Programme.

Our work is vital to our customers and our business. We are responsible for ensuring that Typhoon Customers around the world are provided with the products and services they need to maintain and operate their aircraft safely.

The working environment is dynamic and the work both challenging and rewarding. You will work with multi-disciplined Engineering Teams from across this Business and be part of a strong community of Safety Practitioners in the Air Sector of our Organisation.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Product Safety Engineer will include:

Hazard identification, analysis and management

Safety risk assessment, using a variety of qualitative safety assessment techniques

Safety justifications/safety reporting, using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN)

Through-life product safety assurance

Development, implementation and continuous improvement of our Safety Management System

As a Subject Matter Expert, you will also provide advice on safety matters to Technical Managers and other stakeholders in our business.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in and develop continuous improvement initiatives.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • You will have engineering experience in the aviation or defence sector (other high-hazard/safety-critical industries will also be considered)
  • You will be familiar with a variety of safety and risk assessment techniques, such as Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Health hazard analysis (HHA), Operating & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Bowtie risk modelling.
  • An understanding of the ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable) principle would be advantageous.
  • You will have excellent report-writing skills
  • You will hold a Degree in a STEM subject or have equivalent relevant experience

Location: Home-based at present, usually located at Warton. We are open to discussions around flexible working arrangements.
