Our Retrieval Robotics teams are at the cutting-edge of our technology engineering business. From the design and manufacture of the most state-of-the-art products in the business, to their delivery into our multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) across the globe, our bespoke electrical and mechanical development projects are pushing the boundaries of innovation and automation.
Within Retrieval Robotics sits the Delivery function, who are responsible for providing Project leadership for all development projects. Our Project teams have a catalogue of almost 140 products and counting, so are seeking a knowledgeable Project Delivery Manager who will be responsible for building and leading teams of Project Leaders. Their main responsibility is to drive the delivery of new Retrieval Robotics products for Ocado’s bespoke MHE solutions.
How you’ll spend your time...
Our Project Delivery Manager will provide a high performing team environment that nurtures talent, identifies and optimises delivery process and tools. You will be responsible for continually improving our products and efficiency by ensuring your teams deliver to the required standard and in a timely fashion. You will act as an exemplar for the behavioural standards of Ocado Technology and Ocado as a whole, by collaborating closely with our Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Team Leads and cross functional teams. In doing so you will help to define, agree and communicate strategic and tactical priorities within the department and to stakeholders. It is essential that you promote and maintain pro-active / open communication between the department and stakeholders, whilst also overseeing the New Product Delivery portfolio and various programmes of work to ensure aligned output to agreed quality, scope, time and cost.

Using your expert leadership skills, you will ensure your teams are appropriately skilled, trained and resourced to deliver business commitments - whilst fostering collaboration with other related teams and stakeholders. By bolstering high motivation, job satisfaction and high morale in teams you will be developing well balanced people who understand what is expected of them both collectively and individually and are given regular feedback about skills and behaviours.
A key aspect of this role will be building awareness of business objectives and lead teams to achieve them. You will proactively manage issues that might impede team effectiveness e.g. communication issues, behavioural issues, skill issues, process issues and technical issues. Whilst doing this, you will be coaching the teams in how to make intelligent decisions around their function, technology and product/service.
As the Project Delivery Manager you will take care that teams continuously work to improve and can deliver their tasks in a timely fashion. You will collaborate closely with your teams to understand their development progress and capacity, and communicate this as necessary.
Specific to New Product Delivery
The Head of Delivery will expect you to actively drive excellence across your teams in successful delivery or projects. You will be a key team player, working alongside your counterparts in Product Management and Hardware and Software streams to ensure delivery goals are achieved and products as defined by the Product roadmap.
You will be leading from the front. By being a guide and coach to your teams, you will encourage them to foster a department of collaborative, highly skilled and competent Project Leaders. Having the ‘helicopter’ strategic view by overseeing and understanding of all projects means you can ensure project quality is maintained across the portfolio.
This role will result in you dealing with wide-ranging stakeholders from across the Ocado business and external suppliers, which means you have an opportunity to become the champion and spokesperson for the department and teams. This will include presenting regularly to senior management and cooperating with wider teams, whereby you can constantly advertise the excellence of the team and department.

We’d love to hear from you if you have…
- Demonstrable experience of product development projects and cycles - bringing new products to market - from Concept through to Benefits Realisation.
- A robust understanding and experience of leading projects, using various project leadership methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc).
- Previous Senior Programme Management experience.
- Experience in people leadership - managing team leads & managers, steering them and their teams and goal setting.
- Previous experience of comfortably managing a broad spectrum of internal and external stakeholders, up to Ocado board level.
- Strong experience of presenting and public speaking to senior audiences
- Experienced leadership of technical teams, working with technical experts to drive solution deliverables to deadlines.
- Strong understanding of Ocado's OSP MHE.
- Recognised Project Management qualification/accreditation (PRINCE2, APM PMQ, AgilePM, etc)
- Evidenced experience of managing a Portfolio of projects is preferable
