Senior Engineer – Systems Design (PMS)

Would you like to play a part in the delivery on the world’s most modern Submarine Frigate Programme? If so we currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer – Systems Design (Platform Management System) at our site in either Bristol or Scotstoun.

As a Senior Engineer – Systems Design, you will be assisting with the development and integration of the Type 26 Platform Management Systems (PMS). You will be work with a number of stakeholders including Platform Engineer Teams, Platform Management Control, Low voltage distribution team, Auxiliaries team and HVAC team as well as the Engineering Manager, Operations, Supply Chain and Requirements and Acceptance team to deliver and integrate systems as the Type 26 frigates move into their build stage.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on the most modern Submarine Frigate programme in the world to deliver the Type 26 capability into the Royal Navy. It was also give you the opportunity to put your skills to work developing the system that sits centrally to everything that supports the construction of this vessel. This role could also provide progression opportunities on to new and exciting roles within other project in the wider BAE Systems Business.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer – Systems Design (PMS) will involve:

Delivering on time and to budget a package of engineering in the form of Technical Engineering Specifications, Functional Specifications, Interface Control Documents, Interface Definitions, drawings, models and other technical outputs and data.

Developing technical specifications, including Systems Models and interface definitions.

Design and Assessment Studies

Producing technical reports and specifications

Working with Supply Chain to produce Statements of Work and Change Requests to support the ongoing development of the PMS solution

Working collaboratively with other delivery teamsin order to ensure the PMS solution is intertied within the overall Type 26 Design

Working with the Type 26 Systems integration team to ensure that the PMS design supports the Platform Functional Design and Safety Case

Review of supplier documentation

Attendance at supplier design reviews and acceptance tests

Assessing change requests from other areas of the type 26 platform team and assess for impact

Your skills and qualifications:


Strong experience of Systems Engineering Hardware and Software

Experience within Defence, Marine or Oil and Gas industries

Experience of distributed software and complex systems

SCADA skills/experience

Proficient in the use of requirement management tools – eg. DOORS

Degree Qualified or equivalent experience within relevant Engineering discipline


Experience using complex software intensive systems

Sufficient breadth of knowledge of the control system design and the sound judgement needed to be able to contribute to correct trade-off decisions

Meet the Incorporated Engineer registration requirements (Engineering Council) or be a member of a professional engineering body

You will be a strong communicator that has strong written and verbal skills to interface with both peers and management. You will be able to display flexibility in your work through your response to radical changes. Strong people management skill will also be beneficial to success within this role.
