Digital & Systems Engineering Lead

Would you like to provide functional engineering leadership and management in order to support businesses across BAE Systems in their efforts to accelerate the evolution of digital and model-based engineering capabilities to enable the development of their next generation of complex products? We currently have a vacancy for a Digital & Systems Engineering Lead at either our Farnborough or Warton sites.

As a D&S Engineering Lead, you will actively engage with and inspire the Engineering community to move towards a future that embraces the use of models, incorporates technological innovation to improve engineering, works towards a single authorative source of truth, establishes a supporting infrastructure and environment and recognises the need to transform its culture and workforce across the full product lifecycle.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to manage and co-ordinate a group wide community in order to provide value adding common products and services that enable continually improving Digital Engineering.

Your main responsibilities as a Digital & Systems Engineering Lead will involve:

    Act as a catalyst for the application of digital (model based; data driven) approaches across all CTO activities

      Maintain and evolve the Smart Product Development Knowledge Centre

        Put in place and deliver strategies and functional plans for the development of scientific, engineering and technological skills and capability (people, processes and tools) within the business to support ongoing growth and meet the requirements of the Operational Framework.

          Provide engineering capability development, functional management and discipline governance & compliance for Digital Engineering, Systems Engineering and modelling in support of the Group wide Engineering Function as sponsored by the Corporate Engineering Council and the CTO.

            Reporting to the Head of Product Integrity & Strategy for Head Office CTO Engineering.

              Providing engineering capability, capability development, governance and compliance for a Digital Engineering, Systems Engineering and modelling.

                Management and implementation of functional capability enhancement and engineering projects

                  Management and provision of engineering functional toolsets consistent with technology and product development

                    Provide support to the engineering leadership team within Head Office in the development of capability in support of business IBP

                    Your skills and qualifications:

                      An understanding of the evolution of Digital Engineering and Digital Strategy across the wider defence and adjacent markets and industries.

                        Requires detailed and comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, concepts, systems, theories and practices. Requires knowledge of performance and specifications relating to products and platforms.

                          Experience in the use of Modelling, Enterprise Architecture, Business Intelligence tools, such as MooD etc.

                            Requires strong communication skills, interacts and must establish effective collaboration with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Exerts engineering leadership to influence actions of others.

                              Explains difficult technical subject matter in a simple and concise way to non-specialists, senior leaders and other engineers.

                                Be a diligent, knowledgeable and inspirational leader.

                                  Requires a chartered level of qualification, i.e. Chartered Engineer

                                    Ability to demonstrate effective communication to a wide range of stakeholders through a variety of channels.

                                      Demonstrable interest in Digital Strategy, Transformation, Engineering and its impact on Defence

                                      Location: Farnborough or Warton. However other sites will be considered.
