The Network Rail Telecom (NRT) team is responsible for operating all of Network Rail's telecoms assets and networks. This responsibility includes handling asset life cycles as well as the development, delivery and support of outstanding telecommunication networks and services. In simple terms, NRT transports data between A and B enabling Network Rail to run operationally both on the railway (signalling, customer information systems, CCTV cameras etc.) and as a business (desk phones, mobile devices, data connections etc.). NRT is also playing a key role in the realisation of our digital railway aspiration which requires huge amounts of data to be handled securely for it to work.


Brief Description

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the safe and effective management of projects in the Operational Railway environment. Our projects fall under the following remits; FTNx Connectivity, Fixed Voice Capability and New Technology Introduction Programmes!

Embracing continuous improvement, promoting efficiency, productivity optimisation and pro-active management of priorities, projects will be delivered to agreed scope, time and cost, being seen as outstanding in project delivery.


This role can be based from any of our following offices: London Paddington, Birmingham or Milton Keynes


About the role (External)

What does the day to day look like?

Part of your day will involve reviewing your portfolio of projects, identifying any potential risk, securing the right resources for each project and being able to provide solutions to ensure your projects stay on track.

You will also handle the full project lifecycle, from preparing project documents through to handover and everything in between, whilst ensuring projects are with in the current legislations and standards. A fantastic opportunity for the right candidate

What essential skills and experiences are required?

    Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent demonstrable experience

      Experience in successfully delivering Telecoms/Technology projects

        Registered APMP or PRINCE2 Practitioner (working towards or equivalent).

          Excellent Stakeholder engagement and communication skills all levels. This should include customers; third party representatives, other business / functional leaders and key support personnel

            Successful relevant experience in a complex project environment including demonstrable experience in team management, planning, contracting and delivery of projects.

              Successful record of project budget management and ability to understand and interpret commercial and financial landscapes (budgets, forecasts, actual status)

                Experience in managing ambiguity in a project environment with strong evaluation and decision-making skills

                  Demonstrable project safety management practice and knowledge of Health and Safety best practice as well as Construction Design Management (CDM) legislation

                    A leader, team player and a self-starter with willingness to learn, challenge and get involved

                    We would also like, but not essential.

                      Proven telecoms experience in the Rail industry sector (including application of GRIP, Construction Design Management (CDM) and Common Safety Method (CSM)

                        Formal qualifications in risk identification and assessment

                          Working understanding of rules, regulations and standards applicable to contractor safety

                            Working understanding of The Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (safety) Regulations

                              Knowledge of Network Rail's investment, commercial and procurement regulations and practices

                                Knowledge of Network Rail's assets and how they are managed

                                  Understanding of the ISO9001 Quality Management System
