Software Engineer (Front end, Full stack)

Last updated 22 days ago
Location:Greater London
Job Type:Full Time

FundApps is a startup that helps investment managers monitor and comply with worldwide regulations. The compliance industry is stuck in the dark ages with slow, clunky, complicated user interfaces and installed software. We're shaking up the industry - providing an intuitive, web-based service which automates away our clients' pain and lets them get on with what they do best.
We hire people who want to work on difficult problems - scaling our data process to deal with high volumes of data, simplify our users' lives with new and better workflow, and creating new opportunities to innovate and automate painful compliance compresses - in a way that's simple, understandable and easy to manage.
We pride ourselves in getting our engineers up and running fast – expect to contribute to the code base from day one!

❤ and 🧠

We're a small team of smart, friendly people who collaborate closely and take pride in delivering amazing software. You’ll help shape what we work on and how we do it. You won’t be micro-managed or stuck in a rut.
Our team values are professionalism, sustainability, and psychological safety; we hold each other to high standards, give each other considered, caring feedback, work smart and look out for each other. Learn more about our engineering culture here.

The Role

Do you trust your hunches?
Have gut feelings proven right so often for you that you don't second guess yourself anymore? Do you have a reputation amongst friends and family for dreaming of things that later came to pass?
The job description may say, "Senior full stack engineer", but only because "shaman commanding the powers of the Void" wouldn't really fly on our LinkedIn ad!
We need someone who has managed to fuse mastery of arcane magic (or JavaScript, as others might know it) with an ability to see problems before they happen. To read minds, scry, scan, probe and foresee. Often, those around you won't know what they want either, but we expect you to. We don't care how you do it - crystal balls, tarot decks, rune stones - but you must be able to read the very fabric of reality itself and pluck answers before the questions have even been woven.

About you

  • You thrive on making beautiful things happen with code (and bending the universe to your will).
  • You care about your craft and are hungry to learn new skills and improve your existing ones.
  • You grok automated testing, clean code and continuous deployment.
  • You are a pragmatist who believes in strong opinions weakly held.
  • What will I be working on?

  • Transforming the design and user experience Rapptr - our beloved product - working closely with our UX & visual designer, product experts, customers and the rest of our technical team.
  • Continue the migration of our legacy UI (Razor views with JQuery) to our shiny React app - codename Vicctr.
  • Building new features end-to-end (front- to back-end) across our growing set of Products.
  • Extend our UI test coverage to avoid regressions.
  • Contributing flexibly across the whole stack as needed. Whilst we have .NET at the core of our stack, we’re pragmatic about other technologies and open-minded about your technology background.
  • Breaking down complex epics into bite-sized stories to optimise for flow (we work Kanban-style).
  • Working with Product and Engineering management to deliver value continuously, and keep all stakeholders in the loop
  • Skills you'll need

  • Strong JavaScript (with jQuery) and Typescript
  • Strong proficiency in HTML and CSS
  • Experience with React and React Hooks
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design
  • Experience of agile development practices - at work or in your own projects (TDD, CI/CD)
  • Familiarity working with REST APIs
  • For extra sparkle

  • Strong proficiency in testing frameworks (i.e. Jest, Jasmine, Mocha, Cypress and Backstop)
  • Experience with ASP.NET Web API, MVC or similar frameworks
  • Automated testing using Selenium or similar
  • We don't expect you to tick every box; if you get warm fuzzy feelings about what we're trying to achieve at FundApps, then we want to hear from you!

NOTE: Covid-19 has taken us out of our London office so we'll be running our recruitment and onboarding process virtually. If you happen to live outside of London, please don't let that stop you applying - we'd love to chat about a remote role!
