As a senior engineer you will be part of an enlarged design team to fulfil the needs of HDS across a number of projects including the Delivery Integration Partner. You will combine managerial leadership with technical responsibility. The role carries a high degree of autonomy.
Your responsibilities will include:
Promoting and ensuring adherence to our health and safety policy and procedures.
Managing discrete design packages and multi-disciplinary design teams.
Guiding teams and clients through the approval processes, including the discharge of associated conditions.
Showing technical leadership and providing technical expertise and advice also to clients and stakeholders
Managing task programme and budgets.
Assisting Project Managers on major schemes and Account Leaders with business development.
Ensuring that all design output meets the required standards and HDS quality obligations as set out in our internal Business Management System.
Motivating, mentoring and guiding and acting as a role model to junior staff in their technical and career development.
Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:
Full awareness of Health and Safety Legislation and how it is applied to the design process
Chartership or Incorporated Engineer with ICE or CIHT or suitable relevant experience.
Knowledge of highway design standards (DMRB) and specification (MCHW)
A track record in highway design and management of multi-discipline teams and experienced in coaching junior staff
Highways construction experience
Proven experience in leading design teams and able to interpret client requirements to produce sound engineering proposals
Self-motivated and enthusiastic with excellent team work abilities
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively
Knowledge and experience of NEC contracts and quality requirements
Experience of contract preparation and procurement
Desirable academic, professional qualifications and experience:
Design and Build experience
Prepared to work overseas should the opportunity arise.
Experience of working with Central Government, local authorities or passenger transport executives, contractors as clients
Desirable competencies / skills:
Experience in bidding for local, central government opportunities
Experience in construction or site management
Willingness to collaborate with clients and supply chain
Willingness to travel to Mott MacDonald Office and site locations in the UK.

You will be based in one of our UK offices but using our go digital platforms you will be an integral part of the wider HDS design team located around the UK

We specialise in design and construction, progressing schemes from option identification and appraisal through preliminary detail design to supervision of works on site. We also provide advice on procurement options and administer contracts from tender assessment through interim valuations to settlement of final accounts.
