Senior or Principal Engineers – Power Engineering
Would you like to play a key role in delivering Submarines programmes for the UK Royal Navy? We currently have vacancies for Senior or Principal Engineers – Power Engineering at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Senior or Principal Engineer – Power Engineering, you will be supporting our ongoing Submarine programmes throughout the design phases of the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that we deliver an effective Royal Navy capability and a platform that ensures the safety of its crew.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior or Principal Engineer – Power Engineering will involve:
Undertaking functional design and providing specialist advice in any of the following areas:
- LV distribution including but not limited to 115V, 24V, 230v Distribution across primary, secondary and emergency systems
- HV and switchboards including but not limited to 440V, Main Battery, Switchboards and Load Centres
- Propulsion (Power) including Turbo and Diesel Generators, Variable Speed Drives and Synchronising
- Power Systems Analysis including Power Systems Modelling, Data Analysis
Liaising with internal and external customers as part of a technical team
Undertaking peer reviews
Articulating and presenting technical arguments, clearly, logically and simply
Executing, evaluating, delivering and managing complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks/ programmes of work recognising stakeholder and customer requirements
Identifying and implementing opportunities for personal and team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individual are maintained and improved
Your skills and qualifications as a Senior or Principal Engineer – Power Engineering:
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
Demonstrable experience of engineering system design in any of the technical specialities listed below:
High voltage switchgear
Power system protection
Experience in Power system modelling and analysis using Matlab and Simulink
Chartered Engineer status or willingness to achieve
Background in Marine/Maritime engineering

Maritime – Submarines
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
