What would I be doing?

The role involves developing search software as part of the Ocado Smart Platform. This includes working in an agile team, shipping features, testing, maintaining continuous delivery pipelines, supporting the system in and out of hours.

The roles and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Collaborating to produce well engineered and tested software solutions.
  • Taking part in the continuous improvement of your team.

  • Learning from others in the team and helping others learn.
  • Working autonomously while keeping to suitable development standards and policies, challenging these where appropriate.
  • Supporting the production system as part of the on-call rota
  • Working with our Data Scientist to come up with new and innovative ways to enhance our search offering and measure their impact through data analysis
  • Supporting the production system as part of the on-call rota
  • Collaborating with users of the search product, including Mobile and Voice engineering teams

What does the team do

The role of a Search Software Engineer is to maintain, support and develop microservices and UI components in the OSP platform. They will be responsible for the entire search experience, including product ordering and ranking, search suggestions, displaying products on the search page and any future innovation that we introduce to enhance our Search capabilities.

  • Passion for learning and software engineering craftsmanship.
  • Engagement in creating real business value, be it improving user experience or driving up key business metrics like search conversion, basket size
  • A strong Software Engineering background
  • Passion for collaboration and communication and an enjoyment of collaborating within and across teams.
  • Passion for Agile, Lean, learning fast and short feedback loops.

This would make you stand out from the crowd:

  • Experience using Java, AWS technologies,, Spring Boot
  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • Good knowledge of algorithms and data structures
  • Experience developing front end applications, particularly React
