Network Services will offer specialist and unique services across the network to enable and support our regions in improving the railway for all. We will collaborate with customers to develop, design and deliver national technology programmes which aim to provide innovation and technology advancement to our network, which in turn will make us more efficient and effective

The Operational Programme Delivery (OPD) team delivers the outputs of a large portfolio of national programmes.

Working on behalf of regional customers and route clients, the OPD team deliver network wide initiatives to time, cost and quality, driving for the realisation of benefits for the operational railway.

The key part of our model and approach will be ensuring we can support our team, putting proper focus and resource on the continuous development of the people across all our teams.

Brief Description

We have multiple opportunities to join Network Rail as a Scheme Project Manager which can be based from the following locations: Milton Keynes, York, Glasgow, Rugby, Crewe and Manchester.

As Scheme Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading projects through various stages of the life cycle and will support and assist delivering the overall project portfolio handled by the team.

Operational Programme Delivery will support you with a Level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship scheme to broaden your skills and knowledge. This is an outstanding opportunity to progress your project management career!

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

    Deliver individual projects or parts of projects in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Network Rail company standards, current legislation and procedures including HMRI guidance where appropriate.

      Provide a professional, consistent and effective project management service including the use of performance indicators and project reporting systems in accordance with Railway Group and Network Rail's company standards and guidelines.

        Lead the development and delivery of change projects in compliance with company processes and procedures.

          Handle tactical change and risks within the project life cycle for allocated schemes.

            Assist or lead in the provision of a safe working environment in the execution of managed work.

              Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.

                Handle the production of project management plans

                  Run project budgets within agreed targets

                    Deliver regular progress reports on change projects, including relevant risks and issues, to the Programme Manager (Change).

                      Promote and monitor the use of efficiency improvement methods.

                        Disseminate lessons learnt.

                        Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

                        We are looking for someone that can demonstrate the following:

                          Successful relevant experience including project management.

                            Educated to HNC/HND or similar standard.

                              Good interpersonal and communication skills.

                                Project safety management experience

                                  Knowledge of Oracle Projects

                                    Knowledge of safety, quality and environmental procedures.

                                      Knowledge of commercial and financial procedures.

                                      It's not essential but we'd love it if you have:

                                        Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management or other professional body.

                                          A degree or equivalent.

                                            Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
