Network Services will offer specialist and unique services across the network to enable and support our regions in improving the railway for all. We will collaborate with customers to develop, design and deliver national technology programmes which aim to provide innovation and technology advancement to our network, which in turn will make us more efficient and effective.

The Operational Programme Delivery (OPD) team delivers the outputs of a large portfolio of national programmes.

Working on behalf of regional customers and route clients, the OPD team deliver network-wide initiatives to time, cost and quality, driving for the realisation of benefits for the operational railway.

The key part of our model and approach will be ensuring we can support our team, putting proper focus and resource on the continuous development of the people across all our teams.

Working in an agile matrix model so that we create individual opportunity and have the flexibility to move expertise and support across the programmes as needed.

Brief Description

We are looking for several experienced Project Managers to lead the safe delivery of projects within OPD based in either our London Paddington or Milton Keynes offices.

The Project Managers will embrace continuous improvement, promote efficiency and pro-actively manage priorities. Projects will be delivered to agreed scope, time and cost, being seen as outstanding in project delivery.

Key Accountabilities

    Deliver project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), Managing Successful Projects for Network Rail (MSP4NR), and applicable Network Rail company rules and means of control (including standards), railway group standards, HMRI guidance where appropriate and other specific legislation including construction design management (CDM) Regulations.

      Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with the Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), Managing Successful Projects for Network Rail (MSP4NR), applicable Network Rail company rules and means of control (including standards) and guidelines.

        Participate in the development of supply strategies and framework contracts.

          Provide detailed input for compilation of the business plan and production of programme / project plans.

            Control project change, risks and contingency within the project life cycle and provide all cost, contingency and programme details to enable the Sponsor to obtain authorisation for programme portfolios/projects.

              Provide a safe working environment in the execution of work directly under the post holder's responsibility, including development of project safety plans and other associated documentation.

                Discharge Network Rail's CDM related duties as required by company process.

                  Identify training needs in safety, technical and management areas for the personnel reporting to the post holder and contribute to their personal development.

                    Comply with the Investment Regulations Framework.

                      Establish and manage collaborative cross-functional virtual teams to deliver change projects, where appropriate.

                      Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

                      We are looking for someone that can demonstrate the following:

                        Degree or equivalent

                          Relevant successful experience in project management

                            Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

                              Detailed knowledge of safety regulations (particularly CDM)

                                Team leader capable of motivating the team

                                  Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge

                                    Membership of the Association for Project Management or other professional body

                                    It's not essential but we'd love it if you have:

                                      Six Sigma Yellow Belt

                                        Knowledge of investment processes and procedures

                                          Knowledge and understanding of project and contract management
