Route Services is a division of Network Rail, formed to provide our routes with services and supplies that they need in order to maintain and deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We work with our customers to provide them with the safest, most cost-efficient and effective services enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Supply Chain Operations

This opportunity sits in Supply Chain Operations (SCO), a division of Route Services that procures safe, sustainable, products and services that are in turn used to improve and enhance the rail infrastructure across Britain. SCO aims to deliver excellent value and service to our customers, helping the rail industry to work together to deliver a more cost-effective railway

Our extensive supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway.

Every year we:

  • Buy and deliver 2,000km of rail and 2.5 million tonnes of ballast.

  • Operate 1,200 rail vehicles.

Behind the scenes we:

  • Process £7,000,000,000 of payments.

  • Handle over 23,000 IT helpdesk calls.

Every year:

  • Mechanical and electrical locking fitters maintain 468 signal boxes and 387 ground frames.

  • Operational property helpdesk process over 200,000 calls.

Brief Description

Within a geographic allocation, lead a team to achieve the safe and efficient planning of On Track Machine (OTM) services (tampers, regulators, stoneblowers, in-possession grinders)

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

1.Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, work deliverer partners and other NSC teams.

2.Achieve safety, financial, performance and customer satisfaction targets agreed with the OTM Business Manager. Monitor business performance through periodic reviews.

3.In conjunction with the Resources Manager, produce control period and annual plans that underpin the allocation of OTM to the regional team to meet business targets.

4.Produce period and weekly plans that optimise OTM service utilisation to achieve business targets.

5.Lead the OTM team in the production of plans at all timescales.

6.Manage suppliers of OTM services to achieve business targets.

7.Conduct post-delivery performance reviews and feed information into the improvement and commercial sign-off processes.

8.Support the development and implementation of safety, planning and delivery performance, customer and work deliverer partner satisfaction, and efficiency improvement initiatives.

9.Provide input to business plans, policies, standards and strategies.

10.Comply with policies, procedures and standards and lead the effective management of OTM contracts.

11.Model and promote Network Rail values, behaviours and attitudes.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

    Considerable NSC OTM planning experience

      Proven track record of customer and work deliverer partner relationship management

        Experience of managing business unit financials

          Experience of managing suppliers

          Desirable

            In-depth understanding of the railway industry and its needs and interfaces

              Understanding of NR safety management system

                Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
