Want a Summary of the Role?

We are looking for a Senior Manager for our Data Software Engineering team to join and be a key part of the Data Management Services Lab in Group Transformation. Our LAB will revolutionise the way Lloyds Banking Group manages its data for the benefit of our customers.

Lloyds have announced a £3bn investment Programme, one large part of that transformation is to become a data driven organisation. Using data to tailor our products to our customer’s needs has huge potential to transform how we engage with them on a day to day basis.

Who are the Data Management Services Lab?

In the Data Management Services Lab, which is based in Bristol, we are responsible for all Data Quality, Metadata, and Archiving within Lloyds Banking Group. We work closely with strategic suppliers and partners to provide the technology & processes to enable the Group’s Divisions to understand the data they use day to day, how they use it and what they need to do to improve the quality of it so that it is suitable to support the provision of first class service to our customers.

We are the owners of the Ataccama Data Quality tool, Collibra Metadata tool, Exonar data discovery tool and Informatica Archiving tool. Lloyds Banking Group has also signed up to a strategic partnership with Google to utilise their Cloud Platform services (GCP) to create a new strategic platform for the Group to prepare our Bank of the Future service for customers.

So what exactly will I do?

Over the last couple of years we have introduced the software tools listed above to the wider bank and the next stage of our strategy is to increase the uptake of those tools in the bank while enhancing the features available. You’ll be an important part of this and will create a good strategy to deliver those goals. To do that you will engage, manage and influence relevant staff, maintain good communications and you will also create and drive the technical roadmaps.

You’ll form part of the leadership team within the Data Management Services Lab having line management responsibility for roughly six other software engineering staff and be responsible for their development through coaching and mentoring.

You’ll liaise with a range of technical and non-technical staff, so people skills are key! You’ll be translating the technical to non-technical people in an attractive way while also translating the user need into the technical for your team.

What experience, skills and knowledge will I need to do this role?

We like people who come from diverse industry backgrounds, but as a minimum to be seriously considered we would want to see proven experience within a similar role, participating at the senior management level and experience of leading a team of software engineers in both established and emerging technologies. Ideally we would like to see that passion for developing others!

Technical skills-wise, you should have exposure to development in a Unix environment and ideally exposure to any of the data tools our lab is responsible for (see above), but if you are a great senior engineering manager and have not had exposure to those specific tools please still apply.

Lloyds is a complex landscape to operate within both technically and our sheer size in terms of staff, so you’ll want to be comfortable engaging with a wide range of colleagues both technical and non-technical, be comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity and be a good people person.

Lastly, we operate within an Agile DevOps environment, so exposure to using the Agile project methodology and DevOps experience would be really useful, we’re keen to automate everything! Clouds are everywhere these days, so if you have exposure to cloud then great! But please apply if you’re a great senior manager and don’t have exposure to these things.

This would be a great role if you……

  • Are passionate about leading a team.
  • Want to help our customers by driving data driven decision making.
  • Are a good working with both technical and non-technical people
