Data Engineer

Would you like to Support the delivery of F35 Aircraft into the RAF or Typhoon Aircraft for overseas customers or maximise availability of aircraft, ships and land vehicles? We currently have a vacancy for a Data Engineer at our site in Warton.

As a Data Engineer, you will be working within the Business Intelligence & Analytics Competency Centre and reporting into the Data Services Manager. You will be working with stakeholders at all levels to understand their requirements, design and deliver Data solutions to provide meaningful outputs that underpin our Business Intelligence & Analytical solutions. You will be working with a wide and varied range of customers internal and external to BAE Systems on a wide range of (sometimes sensitive) data sets to provide solutions in area’s including, but not limited to: RAF Maintenance, Advanced Analytics, Back Office Finance and Assisting with International Customers.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to join a small dedicated team that helps shape the future of BAE by influencing and offering advice to senior members to assist them in making a range of business decisions. This role could also offer the opportunity to help you develop your skills and gain additional accreditations/Qualifications.

Your main responsibilities as a Data Engineer will involve:

Translating business requirements and rules into technical design specifications.

Working with tabular, multidimensional and relational data sets to create conformed data models

Mentoring and supporting junior members of staff to complete tasks efficiently.

Influencing the development needs of junior members.

Recording and monitoring development activities in a change management database.

Investigating and responding to incidents in a timely and responsive manner ensuring service level agreements have been achieved within an ITIL Framework

Creating user guides and standard operating procedures

Working closely with BA and IA on specific project, staging data appropriately

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Meet the SFIA Data Engineer Practitioner Level Criteria

Knowledge and experience relevant to creating design specifications, modelling data, testing, validating, deploying and supporting data management in an agile manner.

Experience leading small teams to deliver positive results

Experience with the following is preferred; Data Virtualisation, Application of data quality principles, SSIS, warehousing/vaults

Experience with the following is required; ETL technologies, SQL,TSQL, Data cataloguing, Policies within the data layer.

Desirable:

Knowledge and understanding of the data needs of BI and analytics toolsets.
