Route Services is a division of Network Rail, formed to provide our routes with services and supplies that they need in order to maintain and deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We work with our customers to provide them with the safest, most cost-efficient and effective services enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Supply Chain Operations

This opportunity sits in Supply Chain Operations (SCO), a division of Route Services that procures safe, sustainable, products and services that are in turn used to improve and enhance the rail infrastructure across Britain. SCO aims to deliver excellent value and service to our customers, helping the rail industry to work together to deliver a more cost-effective railway.

Our extensive supply chain network plays a crucial role in helping to run a safe and efficient railway.

Every year we:

  • Buy and deliver 2,000km of rail and 2.5 million tonnes of ballast.

  • Operate 1,200 rail vehicles.

Behind the scenes we:

  • Process £7,000,000,000 of payments.

  • Handle over 23,000 IT helpdesk calls.

Every year:

  • Mechanical and electrical locking fitters maintain 468 signal boxes and 387 ground frames.

  • Operational property helpdesk process over 200,000 calls.

Brief Description

This exciting role sits within a busy Logistics team. You will plan the safe and effective delivery of Supply Chain Operations (SCO) logistics resources to achieve customer service contract requirements through excellent customer service and account management

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

1.Contribute to planning service delivery requirements against an agreed work bank

2.Support the team in the production of control period and annual plans for demand planning purposes

3.Collate agreed performance data against specified KPIs

4.Collate agreed contractual data to support management of specified contracts

5.Identify resource conflicts or delivery constraints and facilitate resolution

6.Participate in post-delivery performance reviews

7.Participate in the development and implementation of safety, planning and delivery performance, customer and work deliverer partner satisfaction, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

    Customer focused

      Flexible and able to meet changing demand requirements and challenging deadlines within a continuous planning process

        Good communication skills and a customer focused approach

          Able to operate planning systems

            Able to plan routing of network trains to and from possessions and movement of them within possessions.

            Desirable

              In-depth understanding of the railway industry and its needs and interfaces

                Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures

                  Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques i.e. LEAN
                  • Able to evaluate complex factors and make decisions to maximise safety, operational and financial
