Brief Description

To oversee the interaction of train services on key routes to achieve the highest possible PPM for all operators whilst minimising overall delay through proactive intervention. To work with Train Operator to achieve the delivery of the daily planned train service during normal timetable operations and disruption. To identify opportunities for fine tuning the working timetable and feed these into the relevant planning departments.

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

1.Continuously monitor the real time running of all services on key routes using all available and appropriate sources of information

2.Proactively manage passenger / freight trains to achieve PPM / FPM targets by identifying regulation opportunities, contacting controlling signallers in timely fashion to achieve required intervention.

3.Proactively monitor incidents of time loss in running and unexplained delay to minimise the reactionary impact of these incidents on the network.

4.Review the daily Infrastructure Readiness Statement and any other relevant information to identify, highlight and mitigate risks to operator performance.

5.Discuss all courses of action to be taken to assist the maintenance and recovery of PPM/FPM for all operators on a route including agreeing PPM/FPM intervention strategies with Train Operators and adjoining route controls

6.Maintain a log of interventions undertaken, including all requests made, actions taken by all relevant personnel and PPM/FPM success (or otherwise) achieved.

7.Develop and maintain relationship with TOC/FOC performance and planning managers to feedback repeat failures and/or areas for fine tuning of working timetable to improve operational performance.

8.Identify and initiate actions to be taken to recover the service from disruptive events in liaison with the Network Rail Train Running Controller.

9.Check that the requirements of service recovery agreements are applied consistently and correctly.

Assist Train Running / Incident Controllers in the dissemination of train service information as required and/or directed.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Knowledge of TRUST and TOPS

  • Safety critical communication awareness

  • Knowledge of regulation, PPM/FPM and service groups

  • IT skills
