Brief Description

The role of Artisan within Buildings and Civils consist of numerous tasks including undertaking inspections of building assets, PPM & fault finding as well as the maintenance and renewal of assets. To competently fulfil the role you will require a diverse skill set and experience across general building trades, ideally with a lead trade of bricklaying and trowel works. When required; direct, organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, effectively and to the relevant standards.

Our ethos is Putting Passengers First, which means you will be required to work nights and unsociable hours undertaking safety critical duties and driving of a company vehicle as and when required.

About the role (External)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for the team including Contractors.

  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions with minimum disruption to customers and stakeholders.

  • Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.

  • Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards and company policies and procedures at all times.

  • Produce site specific risk assessments in conjunction with risk control manuals.

  • When working on or near the line a requirement is to review and sign off safe system of work documentation where required. A requirement is to be PTS trained and ideally a holder of COSS competency.

  • Deliver and maintain an effective service to customers and key stakeholders.

  • Attend weekly meetings with immediate team, stakeholders and train operators to discuss performance, issues, outcomes and planning.

  • Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.

  • Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies when taking the lead.

  • Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.

  • Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.

  • Produce asset information report following any inspections in specified format.

  • Contribute to your own development and that of others and have a personal development plan in place.

  • Attend training courses and contribute to overall team skill set and knowledge.

  • Be at technical expert in your trade bias to provide technical advise, support, experience, knowledge and where required training' to peers.

  • Working at height, confined spaces and working underground will be required once competencies are obtained.

  • Undertake inspection, fault finding, maintenance and renewal/ installation work.

Experience, skills, knowledge, competencies and qualifications

Essential

  • Must have 5 years (after obtaining qualification) maintenance, installation, fault finding and repairs experience in a reactive and maintenance environment.

  • Multi skilled Artisan who is able to undertake ALL maintenance, installation, fault finding and repair work to industry standards in all areas.

  • Candidate must have a trade specific bias in bricklaying/trowel works.

  • Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.

  • Experience of organising and controlling the safe and efficient delivery of work.

  • Able to demonstrate and promote safe working behaviours.

  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of building fabric and equipment.

  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.

  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

  • Able and willing to be rostered from days to nights

  • Candidate must have a trade specific bias in bricklaying/trowel works or joinery to a minimum qualification of City & Guilds NVQ level 2.
