Senior Commissioning Engineer

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Commissioning Engineer at our site in Barrow in Furness.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will be part of a growing team that is part of the Strategic Weapons Test Organisation for the Dreadnought programme.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in the test and commissioning of weapon system within a Nuclear Submarine from build process through to operation at sea.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Commissioning Engineer are as follows:

Overseeing and advising on installation of SWS Navigation equipment.

Testing, commissioning, and operation of SWS Navigation Systems & Equipment in Dreadnought class Submarines.

Recording test results

Preventative and corrective maintenance

Review and comment on draft test documentation

Liaison with equipment prime contractors and technical authorities (UK and US)

Production and co-ordination of technical information and programmes

Production of Process Instructions and new initiatives

Representing the Company on Contractors Sea Trials and other outworking requirements including guarantee periods as applicable

Ensuring safe and efficient working practices at all times – including taking indirect responsibility for less senior member of the team around you

Control of Sub-contractors, which could involve input into risk assessments, method statements, security arrangements and monitoring of work

Will involve a good degree of autonomy, whilst reporting into a Commissioning Project Leader. Will be expected to take ownership for their own deliverables, and work without immediate supervision.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential

Experience as an operator, maintainer or test and commissioning engineer on complex electrical/electronic equipment

Familiarity with engineering documentation associated with operation and maintenance of complex systems.

Familiarity with installation of fibre optic cabling and maintenance of required standards of cleanliness

Microsoft IT skills/ECDL

Good communication skills.

Ability to analyse and interpret information
