IBM Cognos TM1 Developer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join BAE Systems Maritime - Naval Ships as a Software Developer within the TM1 team.

You will work in a small, close knit team that strives to understand the needs of the business, tease out their information requirements and the data required to fulfil it. You’ll transform this insight into solutions that allow the business to report Financial and non-Financial information to a variety of Stakeholders, allowing the business to make timely and informed decisions.

Current TM1 models cover Monthly Management Reporting, Integrated Business Planning, Business Resource Planning and Project Review cycles. They provide the business with tools to monitor and report financial performance at a Project and Enterprise level, enabling users to prepare, update and consolidate budgets, plans and forecasts.

You will be joining the team at an exciting time as the current models are being re-developed, new solutions are in the pipeline and an upgrade to the latest version of TM1 is being planned.

As a TM1 Developer your main responsibilities will involve:

Delivering reliable, scalable, and efficient IBM Cognos TM1 Solutions. You will be involved in all phases of the software development life cycle including requirements gathering, business analysis, modelling & design, development, testing, deployment, integration, documentation and through life support

Maintaining and supporting the existing TM1 models, evolving and improving them through the defined change management process to keep pace with a dynamic and changing business environment and the latest technology upgrades

Supporting the ‘TM1 Champions’ within the business and the wider user community by providing training, best practice and TM1 knowledge transfer to empower them to leverage the information potential of the underlying models and alleviate cumbersome manual processes

Supporting dimension management, metadata design/maintenance, ETL and interface development, and data validation processes

Proactively identify process improvement opportunities, helping the business to drive innovation and the adoption of TM1 where appropriate

As a TM1 Developer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Educated to degree level (or with relevant technical experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent

2+ years of IBM Cognos TM1 work experience in developing end-to-end analytics solutions, including system configuration, model building, data security, and reporting

Direct experience using Business Intelligence (BI) reporting tools, preferably Cognos v10x (Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Workspace, Framework Manager) would be useful

Strong analytical skills with some experience of designing and developing Business Information solutions using SQL Server or VB coding

What we're looking for in you

The candidate will have a working knowledge of current software development methodologies/strategies and experience in developing solutions. A strong understanding of the existing working practices in the Marine Defence industry would be advantageous. A quick learner with a positive attitude, professional demeanour and strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Able to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.

Location: Glasgow preferred but would also consider Portsmouth. Potential for occasional travel between other UK sites
